speedbird Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 i use colbine floor whitening and on the perches i use grills & put news paper under & change daily & also put under nest bowl keeps it clean around bowl when young are in the nest when i first paired up & it came dead cold i used shavings to add warmth must of worked as most laid in 7 to 10 days
heather down Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 my loft is cleaned out in morning before I go to work and when I get home and also on my days off. I use loft whitener if needed but usually it does'nt but when there is young in nests I find I use it more often. Nothing nicer then a nice clean dry loft and nest boxes.
chris h Posted January 15, 2009 Author Report Posted January 15, 2009 Loft whitener where do i get that from and what does that do??
Guest Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I use to clean out everyday when i had my birds. i used Harkers pigeon loft treatment. i did once try shavings, but soon stopped as every time i opened the loft they would blow everywhere. ;D ;D ;D..................amanda

Guest joshdonlan Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 can usually get it from any pigeon supplier about £3 for a 5kg bag, lasts a while. It helps soak up any damp and makes it look clean and white and smell fresh. You have to brush it in though.
chris h Posted January 15, 2009 Author Report Posted January 15, 2009 and does any of the above improve anyones racing performences.? Am not on about improving performance in your pigeons. If you keep your loft clean. I take it your lofts like a sh** house then ;D. I just like to keep my lofts clean
greenlands Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 My lofts are cleaned out every time i go in to see the birds be it 4/5/6 times a day .Early morning main clean and after afternoon feed, the rest just to keep the birds tame.I use loft white then sand on the floor, nest boxes news paper,i think thers something in the print that keeps red mite and lice away(just my thoughts). If they ged fed up it's always something for them to read.DON'T use the SUN page three face up,can't get the cocks out of the loft. ;D
Guest kev d Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 i clean out every day no matter what on the floor i brush in hydrated lime every where drys every thing out and kills bugs and looks nice and white it cost about £3.50 a bag for 25kg
nogin Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 and does any of the above improve anyones racing performences.? WELL LET THEM GET DIRTY AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS......... :'(

thomasd Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I use floor whiter and cat litter keeps the floor dry at this time of the year not very warm isthis ok
OLDYELLOW Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 as long as birds arent in damp there fine
OLDYELLOW Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 sand is not the best of products in my view it can appear dry on top and all damp creates underneath mainly in corners and walk areas where wet damp boots have been and doesnt dry underneath , these dam corners can be the first entry points of rodents
retired Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I use loft whitener in all the nest boxes, and once paired will add some hemcore to the boxes. The pipo boxes for the young uns are on grills with the BHW or RP uunderneath (About all there good for!) My old bird racing lofts have floor grills down and my young bird loft ands stock sections are on a deep litter of hemcore, with a bit of straw mixed in.
