  1. I was told to look at the heads if flat it is a hen. I still find it hard but I'm getting better at it.
  2. we bought plastic splints which we line with cotton wool and then encase the leg in it and close it. Been very successful a few times.

I need to have a bird delivered from Nr Buntingford Herts to Doncaster, who do you suggest I have as I'm new to all this as my late husband dealt with deliveries of pigeons and then it was Amtrak

  9. You don't have to be lazy to have ETS we still stay in the garden waiting for birds to come, but in an emergency it can be useful, I still get the adrenaline rush when they are due back and arrive at the loft, it will be my first old bird race next Sat since my husband passed away in 2006.
  10. I clean out first thing in morning before the birds are fed and then in the afternoon. Whilst they have young in the nests I clean out more often. It keeps the loft fresh and clean, much healthier for the birds and myself, stops diseases spreading. Fresh water every day if not twice daily.
  11. Welcome to the site. I'm from Doncaster and have been flying with my late husband's friend for the past year. It was our first young bird season last year and it will be our first old bird season this year. He had'nt flown pigeons for over 25 years so we are new to it, tho I did help my husband when he was alive and we did win MNFC Bergerac together in 2003.
  12. Cleaned out the lofts at 6.45 after basketing the cocks and hens for training. They all came back succesfully and then fed them. While waiting for them I cleaned out the youngsters and fed them. Then I took the dog out for a walk and later in the morning after ironing and cleaning went over to see the grandchildren and sort a problem with the computer. I'm now relaxing and shall be out to clean and feed again, maybe letting the youngsters out if the weather improves. What a difference to last weekend when I was in Wales,it was so mild there, hopefully its going to improve. Good job I'm semi retired, how fanciers cope when they are in full time work I don't know, luckily I have a racing partner who does all the driving.

  15. I did fly with my late husband who passed away Feb 2006 and then the birds were auctioned off as I could'nt cope as I was working, but now I'm semi retired I started back in the sport last young bird season with a friend of his who had'nt flow for over 25yrs and I really enjoy everything about it even the cleaning out .
  16. far to cold at the moment. Ours have'nt been out yet weather too bad, hopefully this weekend if weather gets better. If you care for your birds then its cruel and thoughtless to train now.
  17. I say Wales because I'm Welsh and they played well today
  18. i've cleaned out twice today, watered and fed our birds. My racing partner has being doing some alterations in the young bird loft and I've cleaned and sprayed all the loft ready for when we have our young birds. First one due to hatch this weekend, the parents have built a really good nest out of tobacco stalks and keep on building, it getting higher and higher.
  19. well done on winning the trophy, I missed the presentation but was there from 1200 till 1240, as I did enter the competition , but must have been the oldest of novices. Good Luck next season
  20. my loft is cleaned out in morning before I go to work and when I get home and also on my days off. I use loft whitener if needed but usually it does'nt but when there is young in nests I find I use it more often. Nothing nicer then a nice clean dry loft and nest boxes.
