fodencat Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 yeah, understand that, its the type of wood i need to use.
just ask me Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 have read a bit and some top fanicers reckon if u can get your hands on real old timber its better hard to do but if u can have a think about it
Tony C Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 What I've been told, don’t know if its cobblers or not, look out for T&G made from Russian pine as apparently it grows much slower in the colder climates and this stops it from shrinking and gaps appearing in the T&G

chrisbonnie Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 PLYWOOD FLOOR IS A MUST , VERY EASY TO CLEAN AND LASTS FOR YEARS ,MY FATHERS FLOOR IS AS OLD AS ME yeah, good marine ply, it`ll never rot, plus its smooth for cleaning, not like chip board
breakaway Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 try stater lofts @ redrose lofts, good design . built one myself and youngbirds are in fine fettle, good luck
ribble Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 I'm also going to have a go at building my own loft. I have decided to build it in upvc cladding and line the inside, upvc is a lot cheaper than wood.

Email Duncan dovescot@blueyonder.co.uk and he will help you get wood at a good price, he built this one from scratch but he says it depends on what style you want, what room you have or what you are wanting to spend He used 3x2 framing, weather board on the out sides, 18mm tongue and groove flooring, 6mm ply lining which can be changed if need be, 4x2 roof bearers, sterling board on the roof with metal sheeting and triple comb polypropylene on the aviary roof, so he says ;D
just ask me Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 yeah, good marine ply, it`ll never rot, plus its smooth for cleaning, not like chip board ive used marine ply on the floor and i covered it over as i felt there was no soak age when the droppings hit the floor jmo everyone to there own

stevie jack Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 AND MUTLEY BUILDS EXCELLENT BOXES AND PERCHES @ THE RIGHT PRICE
Guest new kid big man Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 i would recomend having it straight on the ground(stops mice and other vermin nesting underneath), 2x2 framework or thicker. if building it is what you want to do allthough i would recomend buying one, the souring proce o fwood and everything else will make it very expensive. i know this because i work in the industry. wish u the best of look. :)
rasbull Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 I built my own. Far better as then you can have it exactly the way you want it. Saying that I have tweeked a few things since the loft went up. Ventilation and light the biggest factors I took into account.
