hawked again Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 What do you all think of this idea? A fellow told me today that the Royal Society for the Protection of Hawks very kindly sent him an invitation to joint up today. Enclosed in the invitation to fund them at £3:00 each month was the free post address. He thinks that it would be a good idea to go to somewhere like The Pound Shop and buy a few packs of the cheapest envelopes they have on the shelf, he says that you may be able to get a pack of 50 or 100 for a £1:00. Address every envelope with the freepost address and bung them in the post. It may cost you as little as £5:00 for 250 or 500 nice letters to the RSPB but it will cost the RSPB the cost of a second class stamp for each one, 32 pence but more if they have enough cut up newspaper to make them more than 5mm thick. 500 times 32 equals £160. He said that if only 1000 fanciers did this it could cost the RSPB £160,000 and if it was done for just 4 weeks in a row it would be £640,000. If 5000 fanciers did this it would be an awful shame to cost the RSPB £32,000,000 that could be getting used to re-home poor homeless peregrines. To save writing the address over and over again you can load the envelopes into your printer or if the printer can’t do envelopes and you have MS Word, click tools from the top menu bar – click Letters and Mailings – click Envelopes and Labels – Copy and Paste the address given below into the space provided – Click Full page of the same label – Using size 12 font with label size 37 X 70 an A4 sheet will give you 24 labels. Labels are expensive so just use A4 paper and a glue stick, he presto, cheep labels for about a penny a sheet of 24. Diz onybudy fink ma pal’s a dafty? Guest Freebird Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Think it would have to be done within a certain time period as when they catch on they will cancel the freepost but yes a great Idea.
hawked again Posted August 27, 2010 Author Report Posted August 27, 2010 Think it would have to be done within a certain time period as when they catch on they will cancel the freepost but yes a great Idea. That's what I thought but they would also need to start up another address. Maybe editors of mags like BHW, the Racing Pigeon, Guns and other field sport mags would publish the idea?

Guest Freebird Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Just printed 61 off (not an envelope left in the hoos) was thinking about putting in a wee message "The truth is out there. A wee bird told me so" What message would you put in the envelope? Bearing in mind it is better to keep them scratching their heads.
