sapper756 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) We now find ourselves well into the young bird season, and nearing the end, so have any PB members stopped some of their young bird team, for next year? or have any PB members stopped racing youngsters all together for the remainder of the season? If so why?http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif THANK YOUhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif Edited August 24, 2010 by sapper756
PATTY BHOY Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 stopped 3 weeks ago, hardly any left..
rasbull Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Decided at the start of the season all mine that were fit would go to 200 miles regardless if I had 30 or if I had 1 left in the loft! If 1 has gotta go then they all gotta go! And if that means I have none left for Old birds then so be it! As this is only my second year back in the sport then I need to establish which stock birds are capable of producing decent pigeons and I am not going to find this out by stopping them after 100 miles. I don't mind if it takes me 3-4 years to establish a old bird team. I would rather have a empty loft for a new batch of young birds the following year than half baked yearlings that are taking up room only to lose after 2 or 3 races as old birds. JMO
big blue bar Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 WE HAVE 2 RACES LEFT AND HAVE 15 LEFT OUT OF 49 .AND I VE FOUND IN RESENT YEARS THAT BIRDS THAT ARE STOPPED TOO EARLY SAY AFTER ONLY RACES FROM 70 MILES THE LIKELY HOOD OF LOOSING THESE BIRDS ARE HIGHER THAN THE ONES THAT FLY MOST OF THE PROGRAM.(MY OPINION) WE WILL GO TO THE NEXT RACE WITH MOST OF THEM AND THEN DECIDE WHICH ONES TO STOP,PROB SOME OF THE COCKS TO PUT IN WIDOW LOFT
Wiley Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 In my opinion, i put my youngsters on the darkness to be competitive for young bird racing, which means they go the whole programme, if i was in the practice of stopping any, i would have changed my plans before breeding my young birds and kept them on the natural, and only stopped them when theyr'e heavy in the body. Im a believer in young birds winners tomorrows dinners. so on the darkness even birds that ive won with, and scored well with will go the whole programme.

blaz Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 only stopped 3 yb,s 1 for breeding next year the other 2 for this years xmus race
JohnQuinn Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I put 47 ets rings on my birds the night before the first race, i have 19 left 3 of which i stopped after the 100 miles mark. I have a team of 25 natural young birds, about half of them are latebred, none of these will not go in the basket this year, so thats around 44 i have to go into the yearling stage with next year. However i have around 25 2yr olds and 3yr olds for the nationals next year so that will take some pressure off the yearlings in the longer races and this in turn i HOPE establishes me with a well experienced team for season 2012. So overall i'm content with what i have left from the season.
