chickadee Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 you could probably say the same thing about nearly everything for pigeons in that it all costs money but like all pigeon related items you just use what you want to yourself, I have found that the are useful in the fact that not all pigeons will build a good nest and the felts always ensure there are no chilled eggs because of nothing on the base of the nestbowl and have never found them to harbour red mite simply because we use a beer mat which has been soaked in creoste a while before we place it in along with the nestbowls and felts Yes tammy you are so right in saying that each fancier to their own products, I find that most of our birds are ok with the nest felts and just build their nest on top of it using iether lavender stalks, or tobacco stalks or straw or twigs, but there is the odd few that do destroy the nest felts and remove them from their nests and use their own materials instead, so be it, i say.
sox Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 what the coconut nest felts are good for they let fluids out and stay dry ' the other ones dont and you dont want the young to sit in wet nests ! but when using the clay nest bowls you must have it raised of the nest box about half inch with wood so as to let air circulate under the bowl if there on grills well it will be ok not to
Chris Little Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Used nestfelts for years. Never had a youngster with splayed legs since
