i have over the 3 weeks had over 15 young birds drop into my loft all NE prefix only 3 of the birds have been wing stamped, for the sake of a few pounds for a phone number it could be all so much easier calling the fancier direct & having the birds returned as they have pretty much been local saving the hastle of contacting club secretaries in turn chasing up the fanciers??

if my memory serves me correctly it is a shu ruling that all young birds are wing stamped before commencing racing?? has any fancier been disciplined for non stamping of Y/Bs ??

does the same rule apply in the other unions in the uk regarding young birds?

I have collected 3 birds of my own in the last 2 weeks and another reported dead as an EX fancier seen it hitting wires on a toss and killing itself simply because my house phone number was on it,

all our youngsters have our phone number stuck onto the ets ring

thats a braw idea jumbo, just need to convince everyone in our club that ets is the way forward????? and im not saying that the stb days are poor just outdated possibly

I now have taken the attitude that if they,re not stamped ,or have the classic smudged stamp, done on purpose , that they are not wanted or cared about.

ive had an irish bird here now 3 weeks or more reported it , took 8 days for a reply from owner , would i like to keep it , its very well bred etc etc ,no i said got aloft full of very well bred birds of my own, his reply was cant get anybody to fetch it, i gave him john millars no, the upshot is im still waiting , but not bothered any more it will be fighting for breath come the weekendalong with a few more , lovely yearling cock as well , last time ill bother after this

Got the same problem here, reported to RPRA bird from Belfast, owners daughter rang 2 days after form landed to say her father would sort it out but did I know anybody who would like it! Two weeks latter still no reply, reported it again, had another call also gave then John Mellers number and suprise suprise still waiting with no updates! The bird is weathered and has clearly spent time out before so why bother racing it again apart from trying to lose it!

They can pay for its return now!

All my birds have telephone number rings on - old and young - but it seems you are more likely to get birds reported from non fanciers than fanciers.

I report all birds if I can and try and get them as close to home as possible, but I want to make sure they're heading in the right direction first, there's a few of my club mates for instance got SHU rung birds!!

I have one in at the moment that is not wingstamped, but a PM to a member in the club on a pigeon site with my phone number, and I had a call within 2 hours from the owner - the youngster was lost off the loft - so wouldn't have made it home, but is being collected.

I report strays regardless of being stamped or not - it's not the birds fault and I'm sure in most cases the owners will be happy to have them back.

I know I would.

Ours are stamped and have a telephone number on a plastic clip ring, i'm sure something was mention the other day of fanciers being disqualified if they didnt have both in our fed.

All our club race birds are checked, if not done they don't go simple!!!!!

In all my years i have never had a pigeon that entered another loft perform well after being returned in the stray basket or courier, so whilst i have used all means to identify my young birds, i really don't want them reported because i know they will go down the first time they come under pressure. I know there will be those who can boast of winning with these doos but my experience with them is all negative i'm afraid.

my pet hate is strays with no wingstamp

mine are stamped as they are weaned

If the unions started to charge a member for each bird that was reported without a stamp things would soon change

Where's the best place to get a wing stamp just started and not got one and can see the grief it causes not having one

there are loads to choose from try taylors choice or boddy and ridewood or look in the british homing world you will find plenty in that lot to choose from
