not sure if there is a reason for the terrible returns, history tends to repeat itself and every 5 or 6 years we tend to get a filleting at the longest race whatever the racepoint, although looking at the 3 or 4 years we went to TOURS on our own the returns were excellent considering the distance. :) :) :)

I AM ONE FOR LOOKING AT LOTS OF RACE RESULTS NFC WNFC SNFC SNRPC INFC, AND I THINK THE LAST 6 WEEKS HAVE DELIVERED THE WORST RACES I HAVE EVER SEEN CONSECUTIVLY :(:(:(

I did put on the Tail of that post JMO Rab, cos thats what it is, just ma opinion :D :D :P

A WASNY REPLYIN TO YOU YA DAFTY IT WAS THE OTHER JOHN :P:P

BUT YES YOUR POST I AGREE WITH 100% AS YOU DO NEED VERY INDIVIDUALE BIRDS FOR NATIONAL RACING , BUT THINK A LOT OFF THAT TYPE OF BIRD WOULD HAVE BEEN AWAY AT THESE RACES AND ARE STILL AWOL SAD AS IT IS WITH NO EXSPLANATION FOR IT ,

YOU CANT BLAME SOME RAIN AND A WEE BIT OF WIND COZ WE HAVE HAD BIRDS COMMING IN STEADILY IN WORSE CONDITIONS BEFORE :(:(

Posted

Rain and thunder moved out of France but it was in south of England and the wind was too strong club members have seen there first birds today , not had a good race from channel this season best one was first one and that was a smash

Excuse ma ignorance but i never knew there was another John on the thread, only know a few REAL names on here.........Your also right, G Rankin & Son Gareth timed Westbound in an almost gale force wind, and that wasn't yesterday, so they've faced every type of element over the years.

I think the pioneers of distance racing into Scotland, must have suffered similarly in those days, as we are now, evolution if you like, and we're only a part of the overall process, the question is how far will we send them and how many can actually do it? not many from 650+ i'd say. again jmo.

WHO RATTLED YOUR CAGE THE NITE YA CRABIT WEE GIT :P:P

SEEMS TO GO THROUGH CYCLES WHERE ITS GOOD RACING BUT I WOULD SAY THIS IS ABOUT THE WORST I CAN REMEMBER SINCE THE 70,S ALBEIT YOU GOT A FEW BAD UNS BUT NOT SO MANY ONE AFTER THE OTHER .

CERTAINLY SEEMS A HELL OF A LOT OF BIRDS THAT DO TURN UP A FEW DAYS LATTER ARE RETURNING WITH EVEIDENCE OF HAWK STRIKES VERY REGULAR NOW

Posted

said it before ,but still say theres sumin in the air ,bops are big problem, clashing across the country ,but not head to head will allways be a problem.

we have more 'wind turbines' popping up on every hill, sea, farm, supermarket site.

and the milatary is listening in to the air waves more now than ever before in our lifetime

Very true, but i doubt if we will be able to rectify the problem, first wan tae get 6 months up them for taking action on hawks/falcons, everybody else will stay well clear.

We'll need to breed 3 eyed doos, wan on the tap eh there nut

like john has said it take special birds to do the 500 600 plus races.some of you men that have raced birds at these distances for years .how much harder is it now compared to years ago to get birds to race it .how much bigger are your losses from the channel racing, with all the new technology mobile phones tv radio army radar pylons up and down the country ect ect (no experience at these distances myself yet)

For things to get better we have to do what we can to protect our pigeons ;) Act now, or suffer even more grief next year, GUARANTEED. I dare say there are elements and hazzards for our pigeons that we cant do anything about BUT lets all do what we can to help our cause. ;)

CAN YOU READ?? I never mentioned quality, i said DIFFERENT DOOS, don'y put words in ma mouth

Yes I can read perfectly well.

I can also understand English better than most and I do not use upper case in an attempt to show off.

You said different. Well done.

What is different if not a reference to the quality of the pigeon.

Please explain.

Quality infers that the fanciers who send to this race are experienced at this distance as are their birds and the quality they send is capeable of copeing with the task.

SCRATCHING MY HEAD BOB,WAS LOOKING AT THE TARBES NATIONAL RESULT AND IT WAS VERY HEAVY GOING.NOT SURE WHAT OR IF THERE IS AN ANSWER. :) :) :) :)

I was one of the ones who sent and didn't get a bird - still waiting. Someone posted earlier in the thread on the second day that 'he did not think many pigeons made it into UK on 1st day'. My geography isn't to good, but I saw NFC liberated at Tarbes, south of Bourges?, 10 minutes? later than us, yet their provisional result shows a good number of birds into southern parts of England on the 1st night. The worrying thing was there was also a smattering of birds timed on south coast early on 2nd morning, suggesting those birds were still in France on the 1st night. If majority of our convoy was still in France on 1st night, the channel appears to have been clear enough to cross on the 2nd morning, so surely GYA and SNFC should have had more birds in from 2nd day on?

The other thing I noticed was 80% of convoy were English East Coast birds, so I thought their drag would have brought the convoy that way, and the winds in UK were westerly, but the 'earliest' bird into Scotland was in the west on the south west coast of Galloway. So did these birds come up the west west coast?

And the same old question, where are the missing pigeons? Here in UK, on the continent, in Ireland or maybes in Scottish Western Islands????

Posted

it has to be more than the bops ,wind or rain , the Barcelona nat was also a disaster with something like 20,000 doo,s missing .

could it not be the constant jagging every year for pmv ! as a hell of a lot of older pigeons like chris said 4,5,6,year old pigeons going missing that have already been several times before.

just another idea to mix with the rest .
