hotrod Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 cant beleive some on here that think a s/west wind is still a blow home ,it used to be when we raced down the west ,but ypres is in belgium and a west s/west wind is nearly all on the nose ,they will be lucky to do 30 miles /hr today into the west anyway.

ALF Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 yes mate long gone ,nowadays the birds are more or less just homing instead of racing . sad but fact IF WE ALL BRED 6 Y/B'S EACH TREATED THEM AND LIB'D THEM DOWN THE WEST ROUTE AT DIFFERENT STAGES WE COULD RID THE PLACE OF THEM IT'S GOT TO BE WORTH A TRY I'LL TELL YOU THAT MUCH
Bluedoo Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 aye alarm bells Thank goodness thought it was just me
Guest IB Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I think the wind south of the border has been more west than SW, though certainly SW north of it. Checked last year's pigeon flying 449 miles in west wind, timed 1747 11h17m, vel 1166. Think it'll be much slower today given there's nothing reported yet..
frank-123 Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 if a south west wind is on the nose where would a north west wind be hitting them?
Guest IB Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 A bird coming from the SE into centre and west side of central belt in a SW wind is getting pushed away from its intended target. Can't call that a helping hand.
