sapper756 Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 So if they have eggs will a just take them away In my opinion. I would split the sexes, however if you have made up your mind not to do this, then remove the eggs and replace with dummies, or else they will continue to pair and layhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

geordie1234 Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 I just put cat litter down in the loft to help dry the droppings and with the damp weather they're not drying out quick enough but when a put it down a went back to the loft and the doos were down picking at it will this harm them or are they just been nosey and once they realise its not food they'll leave it
ovy1255 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 when i used to keep finches i was told not to feed too much lettuce as it contains laudinum better to feed chickweed.but was also told that privet was poisinous but every year my young birds give the hedge hell and eat quite a bit.

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Noticed todayt that the doos are leaving quite a lot of there food normally its awayt in ten minutes is there any normal reason for this? Wouldn't imagine its much to worry about. They eat more when they are moulting. With yours being youngsters I'd imagine they're through the worst of the body moult and pretty far up the wing??Assuming they're not moulting as heavily they won't eat as much food. If they look fine and well they probably are
Guest Owen Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Geo1234I have just finished a 16' American style loft ready for the youngsters next year. I am over the moon with it because the ventilation is really good and the trapping system is about the best you can have. I tried the trapping system out on my old loft by fitting the aviary/trap onto the front of a section I used for latebreds. It worked almost straight away because the birds came in directly from the air into the trap. I placed a plywood dummy ETS pad inside and it worked a treat. The birds tried to avoid the wire mesh of the trap bottem and flew directly onto the pad. If I had been racing to it, no-one could have trapped faster. The new loft has ventilation flaps under the aviary which double as basket loaders and walk out exits for the youngsters to allow them to get used to being outside without them having to fly up. If, as I think it will, this design works I will make another 16'loft next Autumn to accomadate stock birds. When I see my mate next I will ask him to photograph the loft so that everyone can see it. I would be glad of your views.
