jonl6280 Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Just got my first ever yong birdsto put in my newly built loft over the moon can you guys tell me how long you think i should keep them in for before i let them out for the first time some people are saying as quick as 4days how old are they?
JohnQuinn Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Assuming they aren't on the wing yet, a few days is enough for them to familiarise themselves with the loft/area. You don't want to hold them too long as they are likely to up and off if they can then fly. If they are homing to their old loft, you should hold them a week before trying them out, but at least you'll know where to get them back.
geordie1234 Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 3 of them are about 20 odd days old im sure and the other are slightly older the guy who gave me them jim cullen say i mite lose the older ones
Tony C Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 If the older ones are making it up to the top perches you'll have to be a bit careful with these. You could place them in a basket or training crate and sit this on the top of your loft so they can have a good look around. I'd do this for an hour or two a day for a week before letting them out.
geordie1234 Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 yeah mate i would say they are making it to the top perches is them walking in and out the sputnik enough
Tony C Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 A sputnik helps but sitting on top of the loft does give them a chance to look round 360°
geordie1234 Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 cheers mate for the advice ive got a 5x 6 section for them and made all my own perches what would you say is the best perches for them this is my first time keeping racers
geordie1234 Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 my ybs look like they are settling fine i woke up this morning and they were all out in the sputnik having a good look about ive decided im going to open the trap on sunday after work will i put them out hungary
