Tony C Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 Tony why does every Club Fed and National have them Something that is there to be won................... as long as you keep sending that is.
OLDYELLOW Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Old bird Average, young bird Average What is the purpose in racing for these? What do they prove?well if a loft was winning left right and centre they would take the adverages , i like to fly for the channel adverages however as we know like the weekend racing we had you get one bird from a bad un only bird on day then 9/10 you'd take them anyway and lets say one blokes second every week his mates 1st every week but missing one race the bloke gettting seconds sends every race he wins it so winning adverages is not always a true reflection of how good a loft is performing neither is highest prize winner so im totaly with you , there pretty much an out dated practise thats been carried on for nostalga
robbiedoo. Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Consistency i wud think same opinion as myself you have to be very consistent to win them .a lot of fanceirs set there stall out at the start of the season to go for the averages myself included
Guest spin cycle Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 i believe averages are of value. when i started i used them as little targets ie see how far up i could get...also helps getting the birds over the ground...and they're hard to win week after week. i now race for our clubs scots avs though i bow out of the english and yb.
Guest strapper Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 in our club we have averages...but averages are worked out by points gained, you can miss a race if you want and not be out of the averages.1st 6pts2nd 5pts3rd 4pts and so on.to 6 positions. to take combined averages you must have raced at least 1 youngbird race. we find this a more fairer and easier way of seeing who has flown the best over a season.

Totally Agree much fairer system, our Fed still in the Dark ages with this one
Roland Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Bragging rights. Terry the 'Hat' only ever one one race, in his life time. In 1992 he timed in the only bird in race time from Thurso. Yes he sent evey week. yes he won the 'Scottish Averages', the 'Old Bird averages' The combine averages etc. etc. Couldn't fly a kite as such, butI suppose others thought 'Crikey if he ....' Mind I believe the biggest downer as far as I'm concerned it may well cost dear in good birds being sent the extra mile...
