Absolutely - all Chris did was to supply a link of another organisation that offers racing in Scotland. He wasn't having a pop at the SNFC, all he said was "for followers of Scottish racing here's another link to consider using"...    If the SNFC fans get their back up about that, then that's their problem.

Anyway - forgive the question & I'm not trying to wind anybody up - But isn't it good for the fanciers in Scotland to have 2 lots of Scottish "National" type races???

Agree, they shouldn't be on the same day like they have been sometimes - but in essence isn't variety the spice of life??

Posted

Why shouldnt they be on the same day? Put them all on the same day and let the fancier decide which one he,d most like to win. No contest really...........

Ooops , looks like I have touched a nerve here  ;) ;D

We are members of both Scottish National clubs and have had the honour in winning races in both of them. Both are good clubs , double the fun  ;D ;D

(1) It is difficult to respond to that question without reference to the quality of competition that a single truly national club offered ... something that 'we' had and others hadn't - see the comments raised in the thread on so-called Nationals in England . You can't really compare results between clubs as each is a different racecourse.

(2) There are too many clubs chasing too few pigeons and members ... membership is dwindling every year and without co-operation costs will get higher ... and more clubs will go to the wall. We need splits like this like we need a hole in the head.

this thread should be moved to pigeon poltics

so the polticians can go and argue about petty stuff elsewhere

Absolutely Bart , some of the previous posts on this thread are getting rather pathetic , they should spend less time worrying about the political side of our great sport...... its only a hobby  ;)

Mike ....Do you consider it good for England to have all their Nationals and Nationalesque type specialist Clubs. ie BICC BBC Midlands National UNC etc ...remember Scotland only has comparable Fanciers to any ONE of these Clubs ...is the NFC considered the Big one to win in England if you are into distance

Basically universal agreement in Scotland (1) that this was a competition that everyone wanted to enter, and (2) a bird scoring at this level was very best quality.

If such was the case 'the other side of the wall' you would all be in the NFC and there wouldn't be any other district clubs calling their races nationals.

i am in the nfc,its up to each individual member as to whether they join or not.i cant find the original thread you mentioned.could you explain how you entered the snfc.thanks..

Thread 'when is a national a national' is way back on page 7 of this board, quicklink

Not sure I understand your question? Joined SNFC because I wanted to compete at top level at 300+ miles and this club was recognised as competing at the topmost level in Scotland: Joined the year before the split and have only competed in one race, Newbury, 2005 [the first year of the split] and I didn't make the result.

Noticed a big dip in birdage in my own Section [D] which of course affects the 1 in 10 Open prizes. The 'balance' turned up on Section D of the SNRPC Race from the same racepoint, on the same day. If I remember correctly, John McNeill, Broxburn took 1st X 4 places in Section D in the SNRPC, while Henry Borthwick, Winchburgh [used to be in the same Fed, these lofts are less than 5 miles apart] took 1st & 2nd places in Section D in the SNFC?

The balance sheet for 2005 shows Newbury as the only race in which the SNFC made a profit; the three Channel races were run at a loss. Don't know how the SNRPC finances fared that year.
