GREENGRASS Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 well done robert that is very good of you, at least the fanciers now know where their birds ended up.
jimmy white Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 FIFE KING,,,,,,YOUR POST TOUCHED A NERVE, CANNOT SEE THE POINT OF IT, AT ALL, APART FROM UPSET PEOPLE ,,,,,,NOT THE NICEST OF POSTS,
frank-123 Posted August 7, 2006 Author Report Posted August 7, 2006 who cares about fife king at least there are 99% of forum members are decent people and care if other fanciers get it bad and will help with advice and encourage us to keep the chin up to the members of lanarkshire i have asked for detailed weather report from steve appleby that i will give to a fed delgate if there is a meeting called or i will wait to the agm and produce the report for all to see
pj1001 Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 To all those who had a bad race at the weekend sorry to hear about your losses, I hope some more of the birds work their way back in the incoming weeks. I can only imagine how gutted all the fanciers who had birds in the race must be. All that time and effort spent by everyone pairing up their birds at the beginning of the season, weaning the youngetsr, medicating and treating them against ailments when required, carefully training them in suitable weather and then having someone throw them away due to not being bothered to check the weather forecast on the line of flight and surrounding area thoroughly. Its sad after a race like this that some members r trying to take cheap shots at those unfortanate to have birds in the race in question. How would they have felt if it was their birds that where missing still I wonder? In the past I have experienced races like this one also, both in old and young bird racing, and I know it make u think 'Whats the point of continuing?' Why throw good money and all ur spare time into something when a lot of the people at the top don't care about the pigeons' welfare, only the bank balance at the end of the year. The only way things can change though is by the fanciers voting with their feet and attending the AGM and expressing their feelings. Some will laugh at u, some will dismiss what u say, but if what u have to say is what most of the true fanciers feel they will back u. The committees don't seem to realise that having a disaster race like this doesn't just affect their fanciers this year but for maybe 2-3 years afterwards. As fanciers now will have very few yearlings for next year, 2 year olds for the year after etc. Resulting in the Fed's birdage and income falling as a result. I feel that what committees need to do is to appoint a genuine pigeon person as convoyer and then provide them with all the tools and technology avaliable to do their job to the best of their ability. If u want a wooden fence made for ur house and all u have to work with is a hammer and a hatchet ur fence won't look too good. If u give the same person all the tools they need i.e. hammer, saws, planes etc then u should get a much improved fence, if the person making the fence is at all competent at their job. The same applies to the convoyer, if they r only allowed to make X phone calls per race or they r only allowed to spend a fixed budget on weather phone calls, then the fanciers will not be guaranteed a decent race each week. Therefore the committee should do all in their powers to provide the convoyer with a list of contacts on the line of flight for each racepoint that they can contact by phone on race day, provide them access to up to date weather forecasts as well as access to Internet weather websites and any other media deemed beneficial. With all the information provided from these sources a better overall picture of the weather for that particular day will be present thus minimising the chances of a bad liberation. Convoyers will always get caught out by the weather, because even the weather forecast people can't read it at times, but what committees should try and do is provide the convoyer with all the facilities necessary for them to do the best job they can. If they do everything they could to the best of their ability then in most causes if the fanciers see this they can accept it , knowing that everything that could be done was done (although at times its not easy to accept). Also improved communication between conveyors of different organisations would also be beneficial in both getting a better overview of the weather throughout the country but also in minimising clashing etc.
fifestay Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Re: Fife King maybe you guys will realise what our Fed was up against ...Fife King and Co left to set up with the RPRA and to say things have neen harmonious with their departure has been an understatemnet .... you may all recall the the difficulties 2 years ago ...you just cant reason with Guys with the attitude of Fife King. However no longer Fife fed's problem but you get the picture

johno Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 seem to be easily upset by one person telling us how his returns were. this is not a problem and did not cause the loses. sily if we wonder of the point. who let them go when the weather was terrible
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 IT WAS NOT A QUESTION OF GETTING UPSET BECAUSE SOMEBODY POSTED THEIR RETURNS IT WAS BECAUSE HE WAS AN ARROGANT SMUG GLOATING CLOWN THAT WAS TRYING TO GET PEOPLE WOUND UP BY INFERRING THAT HIS BIRDS WERE BETTER BECAUSE HE GOT THEM ALL HOME AND EVERYBODY IN LANARKSHIRE HAD ROTTEN RETURNS AND REGARDING YOUR POST ABOVE WHAT DOES THIS PART MEAN sily if we wonder of the point.
dandydoo Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 the club fife king's dad races in were at St Boswells ...Sunday Basketing two weeks ago and by the members admission were slaughtered ..... not nice for those boys ...i wondered if mr. swilcox Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Aye we have a name Aitken, and his first name is? Some people always hide behind an alias and then they find it easy to say what they want!!!! Maybe the webmaster should change his username to actual name and then he would learn a little respect. Stuart
swilcox Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Willie Aitken, sounds such a nice boy!!!!!
Guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Hi, I live in Whitby N Yorks, I have several Scottish young birds that have come into or loft, they dropped with our birds from Peterboro, they are SU 06P 3497, 06L 19867,06L 10287, 06F 2199, 06ML 3462, AND 06 ( NO LETTER BUT STAMPED DUNBAR ) 06 5018, My neice,is down from Ayr,she is going back on Saturday, i have asked her to let them go at Dumfries, all the best. Robert Saturday was a west wind, Whitby is east of Scotch Corner, and the birds run out of land there. If there was fog or sea haar they would probably not realise that until they were on the North sea. Have posted before elsewhere that we sometimes forget that we are on an island, and in some cases it don't take long for the birds to run out of land. Thanks Robert to you and your family for your efforts to return the birds home.
frank-123 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 this was recieved from steve appleby I have researched my archive images and can only supply the following 2 images which are attached. 1) Satellite image captured at 08:00 which shows full cloud cover over the Darlington area.(circled red) 2) Rainfall radar image showing some patchy drizzle ( circled red) over the same area supporting the fact that cloud was over that area at 09:15. There seems little doubt that your YB's were liberated under full cloud cover. Liberating Young Birds in under these weather conditions would have certainly not have afforded that essential good start. The Young Birds would have circled the race point flying forwards and backwards searching for lines of flight. Some of the cloud in the vicinity carried some light patchy drizzle and if none was evident over the race point then the fact that drizzle was identified in the area is clear proof that the cloud was heavy enough to generate drizzle. (see radar rainfall image) Any pigeons finding their navigational line would have been further obstructed by continuing full cloud cover further north. ( The sun must visible to be able to liberate young birds.) The cloud did break up quite quickly after 09:30 hours confirmed by later satellite images received. I was advising the UNC with approximately 35,000 pigeons at Bubwith and we were aware of the inclement weather (Scotch Corner) on their line of flight north. After waiting for conditions to improve near their home end, about 50 miles north of Bubwith, liberations took place from Bubwith with the sun shining resulting in very good racing for the UNC members. I hope you find this information of use. Regards, Steve.
ALF Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 gOT ANOTHER 1 BACK SO THATS ME UP TO 4 ??) ??) ??)
johno Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 steve appleby has clearly shown what happened on saturday. see the maps on barts post. time to plan what members are going to do to complain and then move on. i am sure no one was trying to loose pigeons on purpose.
frank-123 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 i agree johno i for one think new convoyer and race controlller new team of three for race controller with a new convonyer use experenced fanciers at the racepoint to give the convonyer some local knowledge on liberation new line of flight team right up our race route use video/webcam so we can see the liberation use the internet to get the most up to date info on weather a new transporter as the one we have is crap a report on the liberation and race to be supplied from both convonyer and controller team
westy Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 i had all myne back sat 8/8 but was a bad race some pepole had 1 back on the day.
Henrik Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 I read Mr Appleby,s report on the weather on Sat in which he ststes that the cloud breaks up quickly after 9.30am so how do we explain the disaster that Midlothian Fed had from Scotch Corner when liberated at 11.15am. I think there is alot more to this than the weather as that is 3 libs approx 2 hrs apart and all have had huge losses.
frank-123 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 if lanarksire's 8000 birds never cleared the race point would that not hold up midlothian birds back
