scotch corner 05/08/06

lanarkshire fed had a smash today with many members with horrific returns

127sent 2 home ,83 sent 3 home, myself 11 sent 2 home the winning vel 689.00 for my club

there must be a meeting called very quickly most club members never reset there clocks as there are finshed for the season with three races to go

after three great races with the fed a lot of guys emptied there lofts with the good weather predicted

how can you build a team of yearlings ? stop racing yb? how many members will finish for good after the old bird season losses then the young birds losses now

its a sad day for the biggest federation in scotland and for scottish pigeon racings

future after the poltics of ets /shu how much more can guys take?

ps won the pools only to find i put a 2 instead of 8 on the pool sheet  and lost the pools what a day

There was plenty of young birds going past our lofts (Newton Aycliffe) 10 mile north of Scotch corner.

Weather wasnt too bad but low ish cloud and bits of drizzle. 12:30 -13:00

We had ours at Wakefield, sent 9 got back 8 up to now.

Most of our club has nearly all the ybs back.

it is a sad day for you and your fellow members who have taken hours and hours breeding and caring for your young birds, just for one wreckless money guided decission to liberate when other feds brought them back.

hope the rest work themselves back home

our club has only 6 birds timed i have 4/24 and thats the best in the club as a whole this is about the worse young bird race lanarkshire has had but if you get a clown putting doos up when there is fog across the border what can you expect feds brought birds back from otterburn to kelso because of fog in the border  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to here that bart, but have faith in your birds, after all they are tenacious little buggers.  I feel sure you will repay there efforts. Hope you get some more. People make mistakes and I wouldn't be a convoyer for anything.

hi dave the birds were liberated at 0930 what was the weather like then

Hi

Not 100% certain as i was a Catterick at the time about 10 mile south of Scotch Corner, and there was a small amount of drizzle then.

However even though it was low cloud cover visability was not too bad at all.

Weather

As we all know weather fronts control our weather and that is the case today.   A warm front consisting of low cloud and patchy drizzle is positioned lying across western England, including the West Country, Wales and north western regions. Some fog and mist has also been detected under this cloud, mainly in areas of Devon and Cornwall. The better conditions are over to the east effectively producing an east west split with the east seeing the better weather. (See satellite image for detail.)

Obviously where cloud cover (some of it heavy) persists, liberations will be prevented especially with young birds.  The Met Office forecast a gradual improvement for those areas affected by cloud as during the morning breaks will appear allowing the sun to shine through, but it could be until early afternoon especially in some western areas before conditions are satisfactory to liberate. Then it is all down to the skills of the convoyer. North eastern areas, Newcastle in particular are under some cloud but the remainder of the eastern side of the country will enjoy fine sunny conditions and good visibility. A warm day with temperatures reaching a maximum of 25

THIS A QUOTE FROM BARTS ABOVE I LIKE THE PART WHERE IT SAYS IT IS ALL DOWN TO THE SKILLS OF THE CONVOYER EVERY YEAR THERE IS ALLWAYS ONE RACE THAT GOES BADLY WRONG BY AN IFFY LIBERATION AND THIS WAS IT

I know it wont be much consolation to you but im sure these birds will have a chance to work in. Firstly the Temperature has dropped so the birds wont suffer to much in the Heat and with the little bit of rain we have had they should get a drink, im sure many of them are still hanging around the race point.

I believe most combines/feds experience a funny race yesterday as atmospheric conditions wern't good for racing.

When the flying ants come out to play pigeons will always be away!!!

Im sure pigeons will return

Hope you boys and girls are geting plenty of those birds back this morning and the convoyer has bodyguards for next week! Not nice to hear of things like this you have my sympathy and hope lessons will be learned for all concerned, not least the poor birds themselves!
