Guest Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Think its time to put this thread to bed now and discuss more pressing topics like when will everyone start training for the first race SORRY if ive deviated from the original thread but i was supposed to
ALF Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I THINK IT SHOULD ALL BE RECALLED BECAUSE I DONT THINK ANYONE WILL BE BUYING MATTHEWS PRODUCTS JUST NOW......I THINK YOU'D BE AFF YER HEID TO BUY ANYTHING CONNECTED TO HIS PRODUCTS JUST NOW!!!!!
Pompey Mick Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I am afraid this thread will only' be put to bed' when the saga has hopefully run its course. All the time there are developments on this story, there will be comments and opinions. I will be over the moon when Avian Flu story lines die off but until then I am afraid that Avian Flu is going to play a very big part in Pigeon Racing. Having said that we must keep positive and plan for the forthcoming season and get some early training in when the weather improves. I am going to the Solent Fed meeting tomorrow to finalise our race programme which should be mainly Channel racing. In the present climate I don't know what we will be able to decide.I think we shall have to decide on a contingency programme based on ifs.

Your own thread is still there 'alternative view' and is still relevant.

Guest Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Bruno i did not mean to upset you or anybody else by my post and i appologise if it did No need to apologise. I thought your post was to point out the original reason was still valid (it is still valid! ) and called for positive look forward, with which I agree. My own post was to make sure you knew that I hadn't hijacked your original thread, I'd simply taken all the BM stuff out of it, and yours is still on the board, at this link: http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1170666324/s-20/

I suspect very much that the first thing they'd do would be bring it all to biosecure areas for further tests to prove whether or not contamination exists. If H5N1 does exist they'll need to update and improve the existing knowledge on how well the virus can survive in frozen uncooked meat, and in what numbers. Current 'even-if' thinking is that this meat would be so very lightly contaminated that ordinary cooking would kill everything in it. But eating heavily H5N1-contaminated raw meat would be dangerous. There is an OIE-recorded case of 300 tigers dying in a Thailand zoo after they were fed H5N1-contaminated raw poultry offal, and the WHO discovered that humans eating it also put themselves at risk of disease when they discovered at least one human case of it, where the route to infection was thro the gut rather than as is normal, thro the lungs.

Roland Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 I believe that one own' conscious decide that, A. What they feel safe is safe and B. what they can get away with. Human element, and the higher up they ladder the les scruples there are. Won't be able to feed to the animals though I guess ... Or
Guest Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 A Brand Analyst has reported sales of Matthews' products down by 50%. Reckon the circumstances surrounding the re-opening of the abattoir after what was found to be going on there will hit sales again. Damning statement from DEFRA that what goes on at that one is typical of others up and down the country ... that's why no action was taken on their previous warnings.
