Guest Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Only thing I have noticed with matrix is that when rearing they seem to guzzle the stuff. At about the 10 day old stage the young started getting watery droppings around the bowls. The birds where taking in too much water due to thirst and in turn wet feeding the young where they were taking in too much matrix. I removed the grit pot and now give a big pinch per box every feed, problem solved all droppings back to tight nuts around the bowl so was right to limit it. I am a big believer in matrix but you do have to watch they don't have too much.
Guest Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 I have been giving peas, beans, maize mix with added g10's. Pink mins, hormoform, scheemaecker pick blocks crumbled in pots. Pinch matrix in boxes. Powdered milk in water every other day and a feed of red band at lunchtimes but thats more for the parents as a treat. Every other day gemthepax mixed on the corn with strike added in. Also the beans, peas and maize in pots in boxes for the youngsters to pick about in. Weaned my youngsters from stock loft on same stuff and they go to bed at night stuffed full of beans.
THE FIFER Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Gave mine matrix today for the first time and they loved it, had it gone in no time, is it alright to give them it everyday ? Cheers if its new to them they will eat a lot to start with but will settle down,
Ronnie Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 matrix every other day and a good breeding mix(versalaga for me) with g10's mixed in , fed three times a day the first two feeds for fifteen mins all they can eat the last for an hour all they can eat.I put youngsters on floor between two-three weeks old and they were eating themselves within two day's as well as all the old birds feeding them.Had a lot of comments on how well bred the youngsters are.(My first time of breeding)i got all the tips of this forum and put together what worked for me.I weaned all my youngsters into young bird loft at about four weeks.
