pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 without having seen and handled both birds it is impossible to tell where you are going wrong! Maybe your feeding or maybe your birds just arn't up to showing.
Guest frank dooman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 how do yous prepare for local shows ?
pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 well fed, regular baths, healthy condition, clean etc but you can't make a poor bird look fantastic for a show.
showman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Over the years...one of the main things I found of great benefit was to ensure there were absolutely no draughts. I would not give my show team access to their aviaries during the show season, and within reason, closed up all major wire fronts on loft. Nothing strips condition like a blast of cold air.
Guest frank dooman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 but surly good racers well looked after should compete
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Was it just me.. or did nearly every doo have dark slime green sh** today.. and then to top it off, chuck thrown in every pen..??
pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Over the years...one of the main things I found of great benefit was to ensure there were absolutely no draughts. I would not give my show team access to their aviaries during the show season, and within reason, closed up all major wire fronts on loft. A racer that has access to the aviary will often have tighter feathering than a bird closed up.
showman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Unfortunately there are good racers, and racers that look good in the pen.
pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Was it just me.. or did nearly every doo have dark slime green sh** today.. and then to top it off, chuck thrown in every pen..?? which show are you refering to?
showman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 A racer that has access to the aviary will often have tighter feathering than a bird closed up. Never had the problem of loose feathering !!

chickadee Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Dave Armour who is well known for winning in the fancy breeds keeps his in aviaries all winter to improve feather quality :-/

pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Never had the problem of loose feathering !! A lot of the tightness of feathering around the neck etc is also in the breeding.
pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 I seen this at Musselburgh :-/ was this a 1 day show?

pjc Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 No two days but this was on the first day :-/ somebirds will be stressed but this is normaly a sign of poor feeding in preperation.

But why do they leave feed in every cage..???? they always put food in the cages in 2 day shows but not all the pigeons will eat it hence what you see in the pens
