Guest Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 A terrific thread. Jimmy White great to read the story of Sir Colin and sad. Over the last couple of decades I've not really paid much attention to performances of individual birds. However one that sticks in my mind is Storm Queen of Ritchie and Whyte in '79 I bought a pair of latebreds, they bred me my first good pigeon. I remember (I think) Walter Masson (?) had a top pigeon 5 o clock rock? What about Jock Reid and the clinker man who flew Barcelona didn't they have top birds and Eddie Newcombe? I'll see if my cobwebs can be removed so the cogs can be moved, there are many more that my senility won't let me remember!! Oh yes what about Norden, did he have a real champion?

Oh yes what about Norden, did he have a real champion?[/quote=3501] youve got me the same here ;D the cobwebs have jammed the cogs ;D ;D but your bang on,, i think it was walter manson way up in inveralochy who won the snfc averanches race with 5 o,clock rock, one of the furthest fliers into scot at 622 miles with allmost 6,000 birds competing, some performance, ritchie and white of frazerburgh,of storm queen fame, were another partership that won well at distances of nearly 700 miles these performances were extraordinary when you consider the shorter fliers were flying 440 miles ,, another you mention is a legend in his own right ,,jock reid of stenhousemuir [the clinker], then theres denis norden of langham won well, and still winning well with both snrpc and snfc ,,then off course the newcombes ,, first raced as brothers there was joe newcombe won a national then off course the world famous eddie who took 1234 one time in a national , i think winning 5 nationals [could be slightly wrong] but countless positions [i remember in eddies loft seeing a stuffed pigeon in a glass case ] this was red rock ,, scoring in 4 nationals in the one year, in 5 weeks 5 to over 600 miles , quite unbeleivable off course his son dale has been emulating his father even dales mrs knocks the socks off most fliers ,, all fantastic fliers far too many good pigeons to name.
frank-123 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 off topic jimmy its pigeon's were talking about not the the owners

Chris Little Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 No Surrender, what a name for a doo......
Chris Little Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 How about the SNFC Gold Award winners, each and every one of them well worthy of their title. One such winner this year raced by Jocky King. What do you make of the Silver Award, a good thing or bad.

One such winner this year raced by Jocky King. What do you make of the Silver Award, a good thing or bad. Too true Chris and for me each and every Gold award is equal to any National winner and you could say they should be held in even higher esteem than a pigeon that might have only flown 500 miles once to win a national. Well done to Jocky King on his fantastic performances with the SNFC to win his gold award. Silver awards :-/ :-/ :-/ although i would like in the next couple of years. ;) ;D ;D Oh and well done to all the Silver award winners of 2008 with the SNFC. :)
