I spoke to Stevie Ferguson from Annan at the Joe Murphy presentation last night and he said that he was very disappointed not winning a S.H.U Award this year with his good ch pd hen that won the SNFC Tours race (only bird on the day 570 miles, winning National by almost 400ypm ) .What a performance by this 6 yr old hen who has 4 x SNFC diplomas and has previously been 6th Open SNFC. Definately a one in a million pigeon that should be celebrated by all Scottish pigeon fanciers. Incidently, the bird that won the SHU Award was D.Owens Ypres winner, which was flown on the same day as Tours. Mr Owens bird was a super bird but I cannot see how it beat the Tours winner for the award.Afterall Ypres is 160 miles less than Tours  and was flown with a smaller birdage. I can sympathise with Stevie Ferguson as twice before I was positive I should win a SHU Award and have missed out to lesser performances in my opinion.  :-/ :-/

maybe he got the award as it was  a one off race and where going into new territory at the time

i dont know alf,, but remember i had a young bird win 5 out of 7 races [500-700 birds]  inc 2nd fed 6,000 birds , position in yb open race,  and yb national  , but lost to a bird that had one win and a higher position in yb nat, [think it was the chris catterall trophy,,not sure]  i remember the secy phoning me and saying theres nothing to touch your bird,, then phoned back apologising, for jumping the gun :) ,,saying "i think the panel were more national minded" :),,, so must be a panel :)  but certainly wouldnt like their job,,  :)  very difficult to differentiate , as all good pigeons  :)    [reply to alfs post :)]

Surprised with their choice of BEST PERFORMANCE BY OB. Ypres winner beating Tours winner ??????? I was 16th Open Ypres, I  would rather have been 16th Open Tours :-/

Would be my sentiments as well Delboy, but that is the joy when it comes to judging in what is the best of anything, perhaps it was seen as a goodwill gesture by the Judges that Ypres was for any member within Scotland and any organisation as well.

i had a young bird this year that was 1st fed witton castle 118miles, 6th club ripon, 157miles, 6th club wakefield 188 miles, and 2nd club, and 7th snfc y/bird national. does anybody think it had a chance of an award

I have found the decisions of this panel difficult to understand.

Last year they awarded the BHW Trophy for the best Channel performance to a North Road pigeon.

My definition of channel is the stretch of water between England and France.

Oh well that's pigeons.

i dont believe that a fancier should have to put a good bird forward for  any prize the sec should put the top birds before the people who are judging we used to do it in the central fed and i thought it was wrog there so if a faancier misses the cut off or doesnt know of it in the first place the bird doesnt get the credit it should
