jimmy white Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 dont think the odd lice will do much harm really [youll allways find them on the birds if you really look, or bring them into the heat, ] but the mite , their the big problem , especialy in the heat of the summer well summer time anyway ;D ;D,,,,,,,,the old adage about seeing spiders webs in the loft is actualy true,, these kill the mite and prooves your loft is dry ;D,,,,,,,,but i think the smoke bombs would be a little quicker
frank-123 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 oh right people are using horse wormer for pigeons flagyl for womens thrush on there pigeons and many other things not for pigeons but they use them anyhow
allenyeates Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Try coopex mini smoke generator they are fantastic. You may need to get them off a friendly pestcontroller and remove pigeons first but they kill all bugs/fleas/mites etc
frank-123 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 when i am wrong i like to admit it i will be watching when your wrong ;D
Larry Lucas Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 From Gabby Vandenabeele: "‘By the way, I think ornithosis is 'wandering around' in a loft. Therefor I am convinced of the good influence of the Koudijs dry-disinfector; it kills everything. . . Once a month I disinfect my loft with Koudijs Dry-disinfector. Those are tablets that must be lighted and after that the gas formaldehyde is produced, which fills the whole space, and penetrates in every hole and chink. The birds can stay in the lofts that need to be disinfected throughout the whole process of disinfecting. The fume kills all the moulds, bacteria's and a great deal of viruses. . . "
ribble Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 When i use Koudijs i leave the birds in the loft and block all vents.
Roland Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 dont think the odd lice will do much harm really [youll allways find them on the birds if you really look, or bring them into the heat, ] but the mite , their the big problem , especialy in the heat of the summer well summer time anyway ;D ;D,,,,,,,,the old adage about seeing spiders webs in the loft is actualy true,, these kill the mite and prooves your loft is dry ;D,,,,,,,,but i think the smoke bombs would be a little quicker Well there aren't Lice remedies in Belgium, they believe they do a lot of good regards the feathering, so do I!
ALF Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I done my y/b's on the monday after the 4th y/b race ( yes i smoke bombed then while they were in the loft ) and i won the last 2 y/b races with a few birds away in the club in both races and they were,nt on darkness just flying natural
Guest IB Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Have used a lit pronofit bomb twice: once in in my loft and once in my house roof-space (wasps nest). If you use it to test ventilation, I would say you can't rely on it to rid yourself of insects. Whole point is to have lingering thick smoke; I had to cover my loft ventilation up to achieve that. I think the active ingredients (gases) are citronella and eucalyptus. And I think these are more insect repellants, rather than insecticides. The smoke just helps them get moving. The 3rd bomb is unlit and sits in the house roof-space under the (now) empty wasp nest. Have watched wasps hesitate at outside entrance to it, then fly away. There is a smell off the dry bomb which keeps them away. And yes, I warned my neighbour I was using a smoke bomb. The smoke is dense black. Definite fire brigade call seeing that.
Larry Lucas Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Apparently the active ingredient in Koudijs droogontsmetter is a formaldahyde derivative. Both Dutch and Belgian discussions indicate it is now difficult to obtain. The firm that offered it in the USA is no longer selling it. Pity, seemed to do the job very well.
jimmy white Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Well there aren't Lice remedies in Belgium, they believe they do a lot of good regards the feathering, so do I! as i mentioned b4 roland ,i also beleive this ,but in saying that, only the odd lice, [its normally ailing birds that are covered in them ] i beleive a lot in nature , and my thoughts are that the odd lice on a pigeon [which you will allways find if you look hard enough] prompts the pigeon to preen itself, i,e prompting it to use the oil gland on its back , therefore keeping the oil gland producing plenty good natural oil, and in turn making for better feathering ,,,and more waterproofing its the mite that are the killers of condition i beleive ,that even after using these smoke bombs , you will still find the odd lice on the birds , but these bombs seems to kill most other nasties i.e. mites .moths, etc
Roland Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Seems realistic to me Jimmy. Now am yet to see a product, or remedy that csn compete with nature. Doesn't matter a jot what or why one uses any substance, remedy, one will also see thriving pigeons - or anything else for that matter - doing a darn site better without! Simplicity say that a sensible mandate is STICK to nature and what she intended. Still see the Brians' Barry's and Garys nigh unbeatable with just FRessh water and naturual feeding. Yes a little extra of this or that, but good healthy and condition winning birds over the past 40 odd years... Must be something in that! maybe the absence of money ACTUALY helps. JMO
