JSTOON Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I dont know if members have been struggling along with myself in obtaining the Colombavac vaccine, but it would appear that the vaccine is not been sent into the country until the new year, due to a fault on the top/ sealing of bottles. Id rather not use the Nobivac vaccine, i have when injecting peoples birds in the past, experienced difficulties with the vaccine solidifying. Having done some research, i have found a substitute vaccine Chevivac p200, which can be ordered online from Pigeonracingmeds. I recently ordered some for myself and members of our club, which was delivered some 9 days later, and now all the birds have been vaccinated, and i can say the vaccine was spot on. Heres the great thing, the vaccine was £24-61 for 200 doses, thats a saving compared with Colombavac vaccine for the same amount of £32-00, food for thought. ;D ;D

Merlin Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Many thanks Michael for posting links.
kirky Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 a link to site would be usefull if you order 200ml mark i will go halves with you, as i think in the new year any vaccine will be hard to get hold off.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 thats what i was thinking ;-) and i wont be buying Nobivac :X
JSTOON Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 Unable to get the link onto my screen, im no computer buff, the site is www.pigeonracingmeds.com, a lot of the products they sell are all cheaper than what we have to pay over here.

superstar Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I've always used Nobivac and never encountered a single problem with birds or vaccine itself so why are you so against it? I know it is oil bassed and can't be used with the colombovac gun but to me thats a good thing as some think they are on an Army assult mission with that in their hands, brutal to say the least!
Roland Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Often used Nobivac, but mostly colombovac. Times seems that I have had what a club uses at the time as they inject mine - not a member of their club though - as they get a better price the more they buy. Must say that it is nice to see the 'Sites' put up too as they may well be more than useful... never used them two of course.

Guest anto Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Ii got it at dublin show great stuff 50 euro 4 200 doses

JSTOON Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 Yes it does say 100 doses, thats what i thought. What it actually means is 2 x 100 doses, thats what keeps coming anyway ;D ;D

Jeremy Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Hi Looks a good deal that. Just thinking would this vaccine be licenced to be used in the UK under Defra regulations ? not Knocking the vaccine as i am sure its very good and to us pigeon folk a very good price as if this was put in the fancy press surely it would blow colombovac out of the competition any views on this?

Thats why I asked if it came with a batch number Jeremy as we have to enter that on our vaccination certificate
jimmy white Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 yes , your quite right jstoon, my avian vet had spent time in trying to get this columbo vac ,, but came up with the same answer as your good self nobi-vac , they can supply easily and quickly they had advised me that if buying any columbo- vac , to check for , sell by date , as it hasnt been produced in this country now, for some time
Jeremy Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 A batch number does not mean it has a licence to use in the UK i thought at the moment there are only 2 you can use in the uk Colombovac and Nobivac ? As over here you need a licence to crap lol.
jimmy white Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 nobilis i have is [in-activated] 2009,, 01, 31 batch no, a449b01 bin ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,,pocket money ,, new vaccination needed ;D ;D ;D
Guest IB Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 There are only 2 PMV-1 Vaccines licensed for use in the UK - Colombovac and Nobilis. If you haven't used them, then you haven't vaccinated your birds, AND you've wasted your money.
JSTOON Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks IB, i will check with Defra today. If this is the case, then yet again we are held to ransom, and it looks like the stock birds will at least be vaccinated for the next few years 16p per jab cheaper. I will update the post when ive made contact with Defra, heres hoping :-/ :-/ :-/
Guest IB Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Veterinary Medicines Directorate website shows only 2 PMV vaccines authorised. Doesn't appear to be an easy way of searching list, I'd to scroll down looking for PMV:- http://www.vmd.gov.uk/ProductInfo/AuthMed/categories.htm SHU vaccination certificate (as others do but using different wording) states Note: vaccination must be carried out strictly in accordance with manufacturers instructions issued with the vaccine which must be Ministry Licensed Vaccine for pigeons. I'm really surprised a vet didn't know that.
JSTOON Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 Well ive not actually managed to get an answer from Defra as yet, but i have spoken to a vet regarding the matter, who was now under the impression that aslong as its a registered vaccine ie it has a batch number and validaty date then that was accepted. Ive checked the vaccine and all have a batch number with the bottles. The rpra rules regarding vaccination only stipulates that they must be vaccinated against Paramyxo which again is governed by our beloved Defra. I will update when i have confirmation, simon
