Roland Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 i read, Sam Hall, I believe where the British bird hold the record still for the fastest 1000 miles odd.
Roland Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Flew the Faroes first year i started ... on own 1984. Now that was a real hard and tough race, with few recorded fast times. Norway we've flown. My dream would be Moscow.... Is1037 miles to me from Rome. But wasn't keeping at the time in the early 90's. Bilco will have some facts of course... says he'd never do, or set up a 1000 miler again I believe. Think that was on here. So is some in the archives eh!

Guest Vic Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Australia and America have some very long races, i also heard of a very long race into Eastern Europe. But for me if you can get pigeons into both Scotland and Ireland at 800 plus miles there isnt a harder test anywhere. Stuart Yes, Im inclined to agree with Stuart, before one or two come on fom Oz or the USA. They have the terrain to race over. Who really knows what happens in Asia? LOL.

Guest Vic Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Oh! Just one little additive. Longest SUCCESSFUL pigeon race, Surely? Remember the tale about "Quo Vadis" A yb that was given the title of the first bird to fly over 1,000 miles into the Uk. One of Bishops Logans if my memory serves me right. Which was accomplished as a yb, from Gibraltar. But who is to say, that this is not another pigeon myth? Shipwise. Talking about all our yesterdays, who did old 86 belong to? LOL.

If you want good birds we should all be looking that way.

All very well. But did these birds record a racing velocity? I had a mate, a fellow plumber, his name was Mick Mullarkey, and he had two prominent positions, within a few years, in the top four of the British Barcerlona club, both recording competitive velocities, flying well over 800 miles. I am not saying that he holds the record, but what a brilliant pigeon man!
pj1001 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Some of Ireland's best long distance birds. http://www.pigeonnetwork.com/articles/Irish_Pigeon_Gold.html

ohiogsp Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Some races are sill long here in the states if you are on the long end but I don't think you will see 1000 miles anymore. In the past in my area here we flew 1000 and 1200 miles. I know someone had a bird at 2pm on the second day from 1000 miles. It was something like 1100ypm average speed. I think this was the US record and the pigeons they used for this were Abelines and Trentons.
