Michael J Burden Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I have been down to the birds and fed them for some of their last few feeds before they are all sold. I often get asked by members of the public about my pets! I have tried to explain to them that they are not pets in my case but a tool or something. It has dawned on me what my pigeons are, the whole set up is not about individuals but it is a living breathing colony. You are only as good as that colony, I expect we always get an odd one that sticks out. How do you view your birds?
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Pets unfortunately - its one of my problems - and might go someway to explaining why I am not a happy bunny when I react to some posts

Williedoo Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I just like animals, helps get away from other things in everyday life, makes me feel good. I have my pigeons,3 dogs,10 cannaries and a parrot, great.
jimmy white Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i have allways liked animals birds etc ,, and like nature a lot, at the moment i treat these as my freinds, as i live alone, my company is my few pigeons, pair of love birds 6 new coloured canaries and two ferrets , my parrot "max" died just a short time ago, a real character , having him for 30 years approx [he was reckoned to be over 60 years old] and flew free each summer with no probs [even in the bath with the pigeons ]
Tony C Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 The top pigeon fanciers I know say they wouldn’t keep pigeons if they never raced. Me, I love em to bits so I guess I'll never achieve the dizzy heights of being an ace. I can live with that
DJ Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i definately see my beloved pigeons as my friends to the extent that im worried about losing them b4 ive even started racing ;D and to think that it all started with one stray racer who made my garden shed his new home i cant wait to get home to see them every day debbie
Guest marksimpson Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 my pigeons are like an extension of my family and when things get a bit out of hand with the four doos in the house i go up the garden and sit and relax with my other doos takes the stress away every time and they dont answer back yours in sport mark.
schyphos Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Like Stuart i see my birds as a team.Unfortunately no sentiment involved here, therefore i cannot see them as pets.As much as i love every one of them, every season they are flying or breeding for there lives.I am a hard taskmaster and give a lot of my time and effort in getting them prepared and conditioned for breeding and racing, therefore i do expect results from them.
Fair Play Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I will probably never win any Gold Medals but the enjoyment of the birds is probably worth a lot more
mark croker Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 A way of life, an extension of me I feel lost coz i cant put the lights on
terry mccarthy Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i got 2 horses 6 dogs ferrets chickens the horses and half the dogs are pets the other half of the dogs are tools for working as for pigeons if i didnt race i would not have them there are atheletes as far as im concerned to do a job i never get close to them as we all no here 1 day gone the next so no there not pets to me
