I believe one of the proposals for the Fife AGM, is to race old hens with the young birds, which I don,t mind ;)

Any age races sounds like a reasonable idea if the time is chosen properly to educate the youngsters.

Only thing that would concern me, is if old cocks are sharing baskets with youngsters, could get well pecked :-/

just put the youngsters in as hens

if we were in any doubt about the sex of a youngster - it goes as a hen

Done it for years here etc, you will have to watch out thou (wink wink) the babies ????????? will make absolute hacks of the older birds, given the right conditions etc on race day & I'm sure you will find out, at the end of the day. You wished you had done it years ago.

Enjoy.

I put my late bred hens in with the youngbirds every race to get them ready for old bird national no problem. Only fly as trainers and cocks don't go.

Strange !!!!!!!!!!!, how at times ????????? things can stick in your mind etc from the past, when one can quite easily forget to put the rubbish bin out of a monday night type of thing (wink wink). Now, heres one that comes to my mind in relation to this topic in my view.

"PER ARDUA" a Red hen, who at 26 weeks of age flew into England from Gibraltar (1098 miles) around 60 odd years ago (I think). Being who I'm (smile smile) I would assume now ????????? she didn't have a worry in the world (our little red hen), when she went in the basket with all those old plodders etc on the day, who she left well in her wake (I would say), on her way home etc.

PS, ??????? she must have been alright etc, S & D Bishop bought her for 360 pound at auction.

Enjoy.

Think you have a right to be concerned, old cocks could make a right mess of youngsters in the same basket. Our Fed have agreed hens only can be sent as trainers with YBs (except to the Open). I have done that.
