PATTY BHOY Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 if a novice is just starting what would be the ideal number of young birds in a loft 26x6x6,3 section.
ALF Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 If i was just starting up i would'nt want anymore than 40 Pat Although a loft that size will easily hold about 70-80 y/b's
cemetary Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Nowadays with the losses etc, in that size of hut Pat, i would make sure i had the 50 mark, but again what you can manage is the other question.
Guest Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 difficult to say as we dont know what the sections are -perches, boxes i would set up my loft first if a section with 40 perches put in 36 y/b, if a sec with 16 boxes put in 16 y/b (cocks if you can)get them settled to boxes for the future the biggest problem is overcrowding (keep less keep them healthy)
PATTY BHOY Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 2 sections have box perchesx30,other section 16 widowhood boxes.
Guest Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 id put in 24/26 in the sections with 30 perches
Tony C Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Manageable numbers is the order of the day, 40 would be plenty enough for a novice.
Guest gladdo Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 id say it would fit 60 - 70 ... the less the better ...i had room for the same and started with 44 youngsters and they performed brilliant ...id say its all about making work easier but put all your time you can into them and the lower the number the more work you put in to what you have .... this year i have a new loft extended and my aim is 60 young !!!!! hope this helps as my first year last year ... if you concentrate on lowish numbers its better id say ... all you need is 1 v good one ... thats the one i have not got yet but hopefully one day it will come along hey !!!!!
retired Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I think about 50 to start with Patty however i would get them on darkness and also have the cocks moved to the boxes at the earliest opportunity im presuming the loft is empty from anything else. Gives the cock longer to take a box etc
sapper756 Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 I would say 40 for a novice, easier to manage and observe for any potential illness
peterpau Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Think 40 would be enough. Work 'em hard till you have around 10 left, and you won't go far wrong.
