Guest Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 i think looking at the map it would be roughly 450 to 480 to the north east of scotland which would be hitting land at peterhead crossing about 250 miles of water laterly prob into a sw wind quite a stiff test
walterbmasson Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 davie iwould say 500mls to us i used to take my birds 40 mls from the norwegin coast f@f sector when i was at the fishing gilbert buchan and iam sure alex geddes tossed also but it would give most off scotland and england a go at 600+mls i would like to think it would bring people back into a dying sport ie would every fancier like to win the nations cup SEND ON THE UP NORTH COMBINE then youre in in it to win it DAVIE A FULL POOLER 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Have not picked up as to how and why the BHW are to sponsor a race but the idea of flying from Oslo which is just a little out of reach for all of the British isles. The fairest and most realistic place to have a race were all of the uk could race from has to be from Hamburg which have the following distances to the citys of the uk. Hamburg----------Oslo London 456-------716 Birminham 509---705 Liverpool 543-----685 Aberdeen 544----497 Bristol 557--------779 Glasgow 601-----617 Belfast 659 ------721 Hamburg stretch of water is between 140 - 390 miles approx Olso stretch of water is between 200 and 450 miles approx Both races in bad conditions could be hazardous.

Smithy Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Didnt yous Scots have a race from Belgium before.I would imagine that would suit everybody
walterbmasson Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 gareth on the oslo race point all birds will go a the shortest point of water if they dont i can tell you they should not be in the race pannier as not in condition to tackle a strech of water the way i went for oslo was to give most fanciers a go at the longest points i certainly dont think you boys are benifeting none at hamburg you mention bad weather who is going to liberatein bad weather another thing they wouldnt be bothered with hawks or pylons wires etc and the amount you would have to magnify a pigeons eye coming up to the waterthey would see mainland now gareth how many smashes has the SNFC HAD TAKE EVERY SNFC RACE I CAN ASSURE YOU THERES A LOT DOESENT EVEN LEVE THE RACE POINT . YOU MENTION WHY THE BHW SPONSERED ITS THE MAIN PIGEON WEEKLY PAPER AND TO FINNISH ITS MORE VIABLE TO HAVE OTHER ORGANISATIONS INVOLVED ALL YOU NEED IS A START 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Best one I like the idea of. Moscow will never be a serious option. Agree, and weather wise also. I'd have a go. Rome was flipping hot! Then the Alps etc. But Hamburg... depending on Wind per usual where best times etc. would be, but could well a good race. Have to also have sensible and FAIR sections for everyone to have a chance of deserved merits for their' birds acheivements. Otherwise, better of buying a couple of bags of feed! Because there is very limited chances of winning in certain areas. So they with a wing and a prayer MAY enter if their was a certainty of their bird getting merit when deserved.
Guest IB Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Wasn't there a race proposed from Germany a few years ago - in the BHW?
