dad told us about a wally pope that he used get pigeons from anybody any info on him and what he did with the birds if anything and what strains he flew dad said it was kirkpatricks he got from him

we found some letters and photographs amongst dads old stuff and we reckon he must be some age if hes still with us

Wally Pope is deceased but there was a flyer shortly after his death flying / selling his birds they were Van Hees and Grooters the later been chocolates and yellows

ime sure wally pope had the old kirkpatrick birds and got them directly from kirkpatrick,think he had some top red grizzle pigeons that won many races over the channel,yes he is deceased.Did he race in scotland ?

dont know if he flew into scotland but the letters are postmarked london and on pedigrees we can make out galabank something or other schouman

I remember going to an auction in Dudley where he was the auctioner I think he done it quite a bit later on.

he says that in one of the letters that he was an auctioneer and as such could get a chance of some of the best about at that time

dads letters are dated 1988 we think and the pedigrees and receipts have got a price of £50 a bird for 3 year old sons and daughters off this galabank whatever

my dad brought a son of galabank supreme in 1958 for 3 pound in an auction

Wally Pope died roughly 5 years ago the last birds he had where kirkpatricks and black Krauths  from L Masserella whom he was very good friend of  these where sold in BHW

The Pope that lived in Basingstoke was I belive Baden Pope who lived at the bottom of Western Way. I,m pretty sure he wrote a book about racing

My ex partner Bill Fright of Margate (deceased) was a pal of Wallies they used to talk about Kirkpatricks  & Arthur Hills of St.Just, Arthur had a grizzle cock from Bill which figured in several of Arthurs pedigrees. The last dealings we had with Wally (East End) was to purchase some Lavern Schumann (if thats how you spell it ! ) birds, little velvets & dark chequers from the states.
