hotrod Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 I think it's the few who can't see anyone winning without thinking they are up to something. And it ain't new. I remember as a teenager two fanciers toe-to-toe in the club after one suggested he'd seen his first bird coming after his time on the clcok. Turned out that bird was his second. But the atmosphere that caused in the club, can still 'feel' it to this day. but you have got to agree it does happen(cheating) i mean , but you're right even top fliers that win and win are often suspected of just that, if fanciers put the same amount of work into their doo's as the winners they too would win, do you agree, ib,
b.massey Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 I am 24 and have bad pigeon lung. Not stopping though. Wear my aircap mask in the hut and a heavy face mask in the show scene. Not had problems so hopefully I can carry on without a problem
kirky Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 end of season when i have to cut down on birds, more birds than nestboxes,

Not had problems so hopefully I can carry on without a problem Good luck Brian, i hope you can continue as long as you want to, even if it is aided with an aircap mask. I have seen what this disease can do to people and without doubt, it is one of the more serious "downers" to our sport. I wish you well lad!
doo Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 i agree with most if not all of the above, the one thing that bugs me is all these (new) diseases/ viruses , when i started in the seventies you never had all the trouble you have now , it makes you sick never mind the birds Medication companies peddiling drugs that make your birds win in the 80's90's00's .....no natural immune ....sick yb's ....sick ob's ........sport dying
Guest challengerlofts Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Worst thing about being a pigeon fancier keep buying hen from Louella & they always gave a cock.
Guest IB Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 but you have got to agree it does happen(cheating) i mean , but you're right even top fliers that win and win are often suspected of just that, if fanciers put the same amount of work into their doo's as the winners they too would win, do you agree, ib, Yes, but surely not all winning is down to cheating tho? I suspect it may be a pigeon people thing (rather than a Scots thing) that seems to think it is. I agree that round this area a lot of hard work goes into getting to the top, and more hard work to stay there. And as I said on the 'opposite' thread I like to see my birds come home, even if off-the-pace, and my first thought is usually 'must try harder'.
Guest Owen Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 I am with Cheeseman. When I first saw the falcons hunting, they facinated me. I could'nt take my eyes off them. These days I can not look up when the birds are out flying. I have seen the horrible performance too often now. I usually occupy myself inside the loft until their time is up. Or else I go up the house and have my breakfast. I am going to try to distact the devils with a new idea this year. If it works, I'll let you know.
les Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 the worst thing for me is watching your birds hit by peregrines and not being able to stop themyour wrong you can stop them ,
