does go on false decloration it depends if the guy doing the jabbing is a mate or not and to say do it all members in club is ok but seeing some of ybs about nowdays i would not want mine within 100 yards of them jmo

oh happy days

why would you not want yours near them if you believe enough in the product to  jag then surly you believe your birds will be protected by the vaccine

dont race and vaccine is not %100 no vaccine is and some ybs would not stand up to vaccinate you only have to look at some birds and you can see they are sick in some way the same as when you race people see a sick bird in the race crate and say nothing then go and talk about it in the bar jmo

oh happy days

not me joe if someone puts a sick bird in the basket and i see it it will be out asap the problem is you cant allways tell if a bird is sick by the time you can its usualy too late the damage is done but i aggree the fancier should know if all is not right in his loft and not send

We do it and from this year will also do the stock birds as seen this year the results of not when a friend lost half his stock team.

We dnt have strict rules in the club you do your own or get a friend to do it but quite often we have dont it ourselves and had a friend sign the form - Its maybe wrong but i know we done it and thats what matters to me.

The Bug that is affecting some members & many others in West Lothian & surrounding areas is confirmed by the MAFF as PARAMYXO - not Ciro Virus as published in some of the media.

The people who went through the correct proceedure

to have their birds checked out with the Top Vets have had the results back in "writing" to confirm the bug and the steps that have to be applied.

If all fanciers had done the right thing many weeks ago a lot of pigeons could have been saved.

the facts are if you cannot afford to vaccinate then just give up the Sport, for the sake of the birds & fellow fanciers.

As it stands at the moment things have now settled and the needle is working overtime - maybe a bit late !

The way i look at it is i dont really bother what anyone else does i only bother whether or not my doos are jagged and yes they are of course...But i dont think we should have to jag them again after they are y/b's ;) ;) ;)

if you have not vaccinated now is the time to do it i've seen first hand the damage it can do,there's been times i've not vaccinated but believe me i'll always vaccinate from now on.

i spoke to one of the boys that lost half his team last year frank and when he told me that old birds were dying from circo virus i said i didnt think it was that as i had it 4/5 years ago and had it confirmed by tom  pennycote and at that time it was only contracted by y/birds allot of fanciers dont get something like that checked out i think some fanciers that thought they had y/bird sickness had circo virus and didnt know it

Posted

believe me frank i know the difference between y/b sickness and pmv.I've had y/b sickness every year for more yrs than i care to remember.so much so that i don't worry about it now

Posted

not saying you dont but i was talking about circo not pmv ive never had y/bird sickness or pmv  can only go by what fanciers say that have had it  but circo and y/bird sickness have similar symptoms exept circo dont stop flying in fact they wont come in and will fly there own body wait off in a couple of days

well, reading these threads is it any wonder we have massive bird losses from racing. if its a willy nilly approatch to vacc as it appears to be. in our club as it is in the whole of the n of scot fed the sec of each club vacc the birds with the member present. it has to be witnessed by club official. its the only way to go. :)

Hello Dan, and welcome to the forum. Need to be careful here. We probably use different vaccines from you , we use 2 and each has different instructions. Also -1C is regarded a low temperature over here, you are probably speaking about -20  :)

I think the answer you are looking for would be included with the vaccine instruction. In my opinion, temperature would not matter.

Our club are strict with vaccination: no signed sheet, no racing. 2 signatures, one jags, other holds the bird.

I did mine and a club mates 2 weeks ago; we sign / countersign each other's sheet.

Like some have said I too used to jag YBs 4 weeks before the racing began, but I now believe that's too late and too close to racing; current pigeon vet recommendation is that YBs are done as soon as possible after leaving the nest. Colombovac minimum age is 3 weeks, Nobilis is 5 weeks. Personally I prefer 5 weeks as the bird is easier to hold then. The thinking is to get the vaccine in before circovirus visits. I think that idea might be a bit flawed, nobody knows when circovirus hits the bird, but it could be in the egg, doing damage to immune system from the very start.
