Guest strapper Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 im not picking on any one , but can we stop all these insults on people on this site it,s getting out of hand , people think asha is a total plonker , but as any one got to know him , i have and he his not what you think he his a very kind fancier and he knows what he,s talking about . ive never met the guy but he has helped people out on this site with gift birds but you dont get to know this . he wount thank me for this but lay off the insults it,s not nice reading . he,s only winding you up , im not saying it,s right or wrong , dont judged a book by it,s cover . you will be very surprised. nice post kev but in your post you say ..can we stop insulting people? then in another sentance you supoport asha and his insults..so what is the point in your post?....do you mean you dont want insults to continue or do you mean its ok for asha to insult people? as long as he,s good to some people? you cant have it both ways kev m8, insults should stop full stop! so because he,s helped you out(which is good)its ok for him to insult others? the site at the moment is in a crisis where threats and insults are ruining the site,some dont give a shxt about that! when fanciers on this site back someone who regularly insults people ,then they are no better than those that are ruining the site.

The answer from most would be yes. I would like to make a point relating to this site and other sites like it. We all have a responsibility to protect, nurture and promote the sport we all love. I have just returned to keeping pigeons after a 9 year absence and I missed the birth of these pigeon forums and websites. Anyone in this day and age that considers starting out in any hobby or are merely looking for information on a topic will not go and visit a local fancier or go to the library to loan a book they will visit the internet. The answer to everything now is 'stick it into google and see what it comes up with'. We are basically a shop window for new fanciers entering the sport wether we like it or not. I feel there is a responsibility on each and every one of us to do what we can to secure the long tem future of the sport otherwise there will be nobody for us to race against in the future. Some of the stuff that goes on here on this site is deplorable and I hold my hand up that in the past I have let people get under my skin and I have reacted. In all honesty I should have let it go but I feel that sometimes things have to be said but all the personal attacks and taunting of people just to get a reaction is out of order. Potential new starters looking in on this are likely to run a mile and as I have said like it or not this is the biggest medium to attract new blood into the sport. Gone are the days when there was a pigeon fancier in every street and in every family to expose youngsters to the sport of racing pigeons. I applaud the likes of Ian Mckay and the work him and others are doing to bring pigeon racing into schools as most of these kids probably dont even know that pigeon racing exists. Like it or not we all have a responsibility to act responsibly on here. There have been times when I have been extremely proud to call myself a pigeon fancier i.e when Ally Mac did all that great work for the Phoebe appeal and we all pulled together and some of the other charity auctions have had that effect also. On the other hand there are times when it is embarrassing to be assosiated with some of the bile on here, the taunting, the winding up and the baiting of people it is at times pathetic. Take a look in the mirror, are you adding value or are you just being contraversial for the sake of it. We are missing a great opportunity here. Paul.

I got no problem with different points of view, but no need for the insult. Asha has different points of view, and even though he is brutal with his words, I dont recall him insulting anyone on a thread........lets not get the 2 separate things mixed up
pigeonpete Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 I see these things still go on, thats 1 of the reasons i havent been on this site for over a year, luckily for me i knew who was threatening me, and it was dealt with! all i ever did on here was give birds away on here, and tried to help peolple, but when i got messed about, and told the person he was a timewaster, he did'nt like it! took me a year to finally track him down, and i had a very quiet word in his ear!! he is no longer on here as far as i know, im sure some of you will remember! he got a lot of birds of people here and sold them on, or just took peoples monwy! and i was prepared to give him 20 ybs to get him started, and deliver them to him for free, and when i got there he wasnt there! so yeah you could say i was a bit peaved!! so come on folks lets all try and get along! and lets get rid of the persistent trouble makers! yes every one has an opinion, but there is no need to get aggro, life is really to short folks!!

We are all entitled to these opinions and also to express them. However we should express them with sensitivity towards others and their feelings. Any behaviour other than that is insulting and qualifies the poster as an insensitive idiot.

Paul. i agree ...but to a degree it will always go on as the forum is more 'open' now. when i joined this site topics like these would be in 'members only' areas. thus keeping the contrversy away from the casual visitor...i would favour a return to the old policy....but then the forum would be more 'moderated' and supposedly the majority don't want this ...so admin. is in a no-win situation. in that case we've just got to rely on our 'better natures' (dizzy)

Guest Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 It's a double edged sword... dare I say measured controversy is good for the site. No publicity is bad publicity. Take a look at the back topics, those topics with the most posts and views tend to be the controversial ones. The balance has to be made by the admin and webmasters to keep it on the rails. This is a damn good site, I remember one of the very high ups in a classic club telling me a few years ago that this was a rubbish site compared to Chat. Needless to say I thought he was talking through the back passage and still do look at how the popularity of this site has risen, over a hundred logged in every night. So yes I know respect is good but let's not sack cloth and ashes all the time. And as to those that think Asha knows nowt sorry he probably has forgotten more than you know. I will accept that he is extremley abrasive at times. I first crossed swords with him about 6 years ago on PIPA, taking exception to his attitude and we have become internet friends since. Though I haven't a clue who he is, he's very secretive about that but I think he's an asset to the site and have to smile when he winds up, cause he's damn good at it! And it's only words sometimes we all get irrate because you can't see the whites of the other's eyes. The written word never gives an indication of body language or inclination and I'm sure mny of us like me and some I've disagreed with would get on really well, face to face, it's just that words without tone can be taken wrongly and of course individual writing style does not in many instances reflect true personailty. After all if we were all a whizz with words we'd all be Ian Flemings or J K Rowlings. So let's enjoy the discussion and banter and let the mods sort it when the need arises and accept their decisions whether we agree or not.

Guest chrisss Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 it takes all sorts to make a site this good [and this site is very very good]if we were all the same what a boring site this would be ,with everyone to damned scared to comment on anything in case you/we upset people,we have mods who's job in life is to moderate this site,in most cases this works ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D,we are in the main consenting adults,and i think we all hear worst down out local clubs every week,we all start racing in about a month ,which is a lot more important than this wishy washy hand wringing that is going on now,we all wind each other up on this site it always has happened,and it always will
