blackdog Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 never been trained after ist race mate, why take the chance of hawk attacks during the week they have enough to put up with on race day,try flying through the cumbrian fells and you will know what i mean.
ritchie1 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 three times a week 20 miles just to keap them on the ball
Guest Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Best results for us when we trained was monday thru thursday about 15 miles. I'd say 30 miles 5 days a week a bit excessive, its ok til you get a few tough ones it'll knock the form off them.
pigeonpete Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 never more than 18 miles, and have been every day this week, same again tonight, have just taken them off natural.
b.massey Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I have trained my two that missed last weeks race with 3 15 mile single ups. They were away this morning too. Thats them going right into 168 mile on sat(hopefully)..... They have flew 96 mile so far but missed the 138 mile race
Guest Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I have trained my two that missed last weeks race with 3 15 mile single ups. They were away this morning too. Thats them going right into 168 mile on sat(hopefully)..... They have flew 96 mile so far but missed the 138 mile race I'd worry less about the distance more about time on the wing. At 50 mph its only just over 3 hour fly but a stiff one (30 mph) your looking at nearly 6 hours! Worth looking at wind/weather otherwise chances your just going to throw them away thru no fault of their own, or get them and knackered for the season.
pigeonpete Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 winds changed from a north east to a strong sse wind for saturday! totally changed my plans!
PIGEON_MAN Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 how far do u train them and how many times aweek mine have been on the road now for 6 weeks and out five days a week fron 30 odd miles every day Think it all depends on what system you race as to wether you train through the week or not, with widowhood most people do not train at all after the first race they just shut them out first thing in a morning for a hour or so amd then same at night, with natural unless you can leave them on a open hole all day I think they need to be trained 3 or 4 times a week depending on the weather.Personally ive never bothered about how far to take widowhood coks or how many times, mine had about 6 tosses before racing started the furthest being about 10 miles.
b.massey Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 winds changed from a north east to a strong sse wind for saturday! totally changed my plans! Seen it on met office mate. Not pleased about it myself. Was hopeing for an east wind. Also says the weather is ok for sat??
