Dodgy Trapper Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 After listening to some good fanciers racing from France this year in the National races it seems that they would mark this year as a funny season. Decent loft stars missing and loses in some races when they should have made it home. Nobody can explain it, after all race conditions seem to be ok, they were looked after and birds came back in good condition. (Some fanciers have kept quite). Has anyone any views about this years racing compared with other years?.
les Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 it aint nothing to what is coming ,wait for the young birds to start ,it will be the worst season on record so far .a lot have lost them already .[only 1 reason ]
Guest Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 ive had the best old bird season ever but yes your right some stars are missing lots more like me!!

Guest Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 ive had the best old bird season ever but yes your right some stars are missing lots more like me!! I have had the most disappointing o/b season since i started racing this year. But everyone has had to face the same hurdles,so on looking for excuses, bad weather, bad races, afraid there are none.Especially when i see a fancier like frank that i am competing against having one of his best.quite simply the birds were not good enough,so just have to look to the next race hoping for improvement. :o

Guest Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I also lost my best pigeon from wanstead that had scored twice from Reims 11th open & 68th open north winds both times, the mind boggles. :( i think the prob was not getting any north winds early on in the season vince ,and lots of east winds the lucky ones landed in ireland the rest got wet
Novice Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 i think the prob was not getting any north winds early on in the season vince ,and lots of east winds the lucky ones landed in ireland the rest got wet I have one in Ireland racing from Leicester. That was a very fast race in an east wind.
Guest stb Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 i think the prob was not getting any north winds early on in the season vince ,and lots of east winds the lucky ones landed in ireland the rest got wetfrank i have never known a year that has had so much east winds, from feb till now . This morning its east tonight its west , but it keeps reverting to east. Not good for birds,

carlsberg Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 started racing 19 old birds now got 9 but i have lost more birds training than racing
Tony C Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Lost 6 out of my 24 w/h cocks of which 5 were winners (double winners & Fed toppers between them) compared to others in club/fed I got away with it light!! many good pigeons missing but why? surely it cant all be down to the weather :-/ can it? Indirectly I think yes in as much as we start racing far to early.
Guest spin cycle Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 havn't noticed much difference lost 5 racing (i loose more around the loft). having said that i'm racing thurso for the first time this sat so it could change (dizzy). also my results are nowhere as good as last year...motivation wise they are 'homing' rather than racing...perhaps making my returns better ?
les Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 and what is that reason ,please tell us , c,mon no secrets . andy. MARTIANS
pigeonpete Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 MARTIANS Thought you were going to tell us les ;-)
Dodgy Trapper Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 So reading this then all the birds that have taken good positions in National races in recent years have come home and not many birds went missing. One thing i do know is some of the top fanciers numbers have dropped going into the next race with some not even sending.
les Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Thought you were going to tell us les ;-)i can tell you that i know there are 21 MARTIANS that wont be having any more
robbiedoo. Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 started with 41 now down to 20 i,ve had a cracking season got my best hen home from alencon on saturday just put the icing on the cake .as you see i,ve lost 21 but ive had 11 fed races and 4 national races the shortest being 435 mile i,ve also got 2 away to falaise 615 mile .
pjc Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Old birds this year, vaccinated 50, birds given open loft for a week prior to training during which period 6 gone, after training 19 left! Majority of birds lost were either latebreds or untrained/raced as youngbirds. Majority of birds left are the birds that had experience!
