Guest spin cycle Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 terrible thing....but perhaps the bike was being 'disposed of' and the pigeon loft was 'collateral' damage...so the fancier was not being targeted maybe ? not that it makes it any less horrible. hopefully the fund can help.
Williedoo Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Will do Paul, saddest thing is hes been trying hard to build a teem of doos and then this happens.
Ian McKay Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Hi Guys I had the sad news of the report that J Leadbetter and son Andrew's loft was gutted by fire. Jock was informed by a neighbour's small daughter who knocked on his window and told him his shed was on fire. That was at 10.45 on Thursday night. I 'phoned Jock and asked him to meet me at the loft and was shocked to see the remains of the tragic misfortune that has hit Jock & Andrew. I witnessed 22 stock birds that had died of suffocation. The front of the loft and roof were destroyed. The felt on the roof melted, making the loft a total write off. The birds were Jocks stock birds collected over a long time and were all from top lofts and from distance fanciers. Jock himself was lost for words but surprisingly was not bitter as the scooter had been stolen and dumped between his loft and a dyke and set on fire. This was not the work of a disgruntled pigeon fancier but that of fool/fools who stole the scooter then set it on fire. Whether he/she/they knew of the disasterous consequence to the loft and birds, we will never know. The loft will have to be removed and Jock will have to start over. Jock still has a small team of youngsters in another loft at the other end of the allotment. He is not able to work since having had a stroke so his pigeons are his life and almost irreplaceable. Just how does one start to recover from this sort of devastation. The loft was approx 25ft in length and will cost about £1,500 plus to rebuild. Jock and Andrew do not have that funds available to them so might have to give up the sport. Now I know there are some forums that run a help fund for this sort of disaster. So if you know where I can get help for Jock & Andrew please get in touch before we lose another fancier who needs his birds to help him through life. I will post some photographs of my visit where you can clearly see the destruction and birds lost. Anyone with any ideas of how to get a new loft for Jock & Andrew please let me know. I think the main priority is a replacement loft then we can work on getting some birds but I think it is a big task and will Jock recover from this.
