Guest tom123 Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 wonder if without the chip on the rings could eggs be damaged by the yearlings next year when sitting tight on the nest like i said i got a few pairs sitting youngsters now with these rings on and havent had any problem
Homing Pigeon Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 We supply the Benzing ETS combi chip that fit these rings and to honest they are not too clever. The Dutch boys last year experienced pigeons returning home from races without the chip. Watch when you are using them for racing as they can come off if knock from the bottom of the ring. I wonder who will be first to report a pigeon returning without its chip on the forum. We never learn, time will tell. http://www.homingpigeons.co.uk/benzing.htm

Homing Pigeon Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Don't know what happened there. Sorry may have hit the post reply button twice??
Homing Pigeon Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Best not to fit the chip when the bird is sitting on eggs. Its possible to damage the eggs as the chip is rather bulky.
Novice Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I thought the lugs might have damaged the egg. I decided to go with good old fashioned SHU rings this year
pjc Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 the other thing that i havn't seen mentioned is a lot of birds get rung upside down, will the chip fall out even easier?
Homing Pigeon Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I've heard talk about the other unions also introducing the Combi-ring same as the RPRA in 2011.
Homing Pigeon Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Chip can slide down the lugs either way, however it only clicks in one way round. http://www.homingpigeons.co.uk/pdf/Combiring.pdf
Fair Play Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I personally liked the type that slide round the ring as easier to keep clean and if in the nest will tend to slip away from any obstruction - Don't use ETS myself
les Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 its going to increas the losses ,ie,birds going down for food or water on root home and contacting with netting and like .

Same as me, thats why i will stick with the normal ets ring, was playing with the idea of glue and melting the end on the bricon chips with a soldering iron, but no point :-/
