The Navigator Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Another YB hit and taken by a peregrine tonight. That's three in two weeks. What's the point in doing this as a hobby? pigeon racing is at a end.
Guest 67ghirl Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 We were watching (and hearing) our local 2 out 'training' their 2 offspring this afternoon :-/

The Navigator Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 sorry to hear that mate do u still have my 2 No. . The cheq was killed within 3 weeks of having them here. I have lost seven since March to them. We have three pairs within 10 miles, so it looks bleak. The red is still going though.

Its about time we stood up to this and if the likes of the RPRA dont or wont do something then we need to get an organisation that will.
Guest stb Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 good for the sparra haks but swing wings will never go near it
white logan Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 i live in burnley lancashire and i can confidently say that pigeon racing has been relegated to the history books around here , we have at least seven pairs in a six mile radius :Di am thinking of having trips on saturdays with paying customers to watch the peregrines strike returning race birds , it is so regular and i can confidently place people to watch the proceedings 8) but who is going to make a stand ?, if anything is placed openly on here it is removed for fear of the RSPB , so keep feeding those nice birds boys and keep living in fear of the birdie boys ;D ;D ;D ;D

The RPRA are doing nothing for us. A few details in the BHW about hawk watch is a joke. He has been to me and my fellow neighbour three times since last week. They are all on web cams down here with 24 hr watchers. I came back into the sport last YB since 2001 and to be honest you cant race anymore with ease with these in the skys. Training YB's soon and we are all dreading it. There are at a guess 5 pairs within 10 miles.
Guest stb Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 if everyone stopped racing and training pigeons for 2 years they would virtually all starve to death

I do know this site protects itself and rightly so therefore any projects getting set up won't get posted on here so as not to compromise this pace, where there is a will there is a way and its about time people stood up to the problems.
blackdog Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 know what you mean mate, its heartbreaking were the same up here in cumbria, dreading starting training the young birds up.
white logan Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 if everyone stopped racing and training pigeons for 2 years they would virtually all starve to death now that is a very positive way of thinking , and i seriously mean that , because mr peregrine will turn into a canibal ;D and when you all finnish moaning about your losses that is what you will have to do , not flying racers for two years would seriously damage the wild peregrine populations and create a stir that would be investigated and then you would be heard
Guest Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Not meaning to invoke unrest, but it is about time us pigeons fanciers took the law into our own hands in controlling the situation. 40+ thousand fanciers, united, would soon sort the problem out. There isn't enough prisons to hold us all, and if you don't pay the fine what can the authorities do. Like the ooomigoolie bird, they go round in ever decreasing circles until they disappear up their own backside
Novice Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 if everyone stopped racing and training pigeons for 2 years they would virtually all starve to death We don't really need to stop completely. We just need to be selective about when we race. We need to avoid the times when they are feeding young. The racing season can be condensed into a few weeks by having weekend and mid week racing running concurrently. The mid week racing will do away with the need for training.

You are wrong there. It hit me at 05.02 last Wednesday.
gooner Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 stopping racing is not the answer as the bops will just eat something else and then in 2 years time when we start racing again they will just start to eat our birds again
white logan Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 You are wrong there. It hit me at 05.02 last Wednesday. so they start earlier , 05.00 give or take a couple of minutes ;D, seriously as daft as STB's reply seems , that is the only positive way you have is to stop racing for a time , mr peregrine cannot live on wading birds in the summer because they have not arrived yet , those peregrines that have been artificialy introduced into towns and onto church spires would find it very hard without your racing pigeons , STB , your bang on mate , trouble is , getting everybody to share your logic
