Provide the weather forecast is favourable my opinion is that the yearlings will gain experience from every race.

However there would have been little point in committing them to a 250 mile race with a poor weather forecast.

You are missing the point,they will not be that much wiser for a race 20 miles further than they have already been.And also they are very much at risk every time you send them,if you chose to go to the coast fair enough but that is not the question.

So how well are the yearlings returning from Leicester then,is this race being as educational for them as most thought.Or with the benefit of hindsight was Newark enough for them.?????????????????

Yes it was educational for them Vincent, newark was a blow home doing a mile a minute, it would have been ideal today if it had been a head wind from Leicester down to  1000 vel but as it so happens the pigeons got quite a rumble up and the ones that make it home have another notch on their education and will stand them in good stead in the future.

Is the lanarkshire Fed Leicester yearling open, a meaningless race as far as schooling for yearlings is concerned. I would have to say yes,on the basis they have already been to Newark. Is there any advantage sending your yearlings to Leicester with it only being some 20 miles further,think not.

vincent if u r a serious distance fancier send the ylgs to eastbourne that will sort the wheat from the chaff out .Remember this beauty is only skin deep i saw ur photo in the bhw and to be honest u would never have left the nest in my loft.

I think that you will find the majority of SERIOUS distance fanciers will leave Eastbourne to the inland fanciers.As to sorting the wheat from the chaff my next port of call is Reims 560 miles,think that might just do the trick. ;)And as to the good looking chap in the BHW at least we all know who he is not like some i could mention. :P  ;D ;D
