Guest IB Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 My father raced with his father think it was maybe before WW2, long before I was born. Think it was mid-50's that he started them up again on his own, it was deffo before I started primary school. Was really 1960-66 when I was involved with them, till I left home and that was that until 2001 when I started up again.
Guest grizzler Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 both my grand fathers, and uncles had pigeons.so i guess thats where i get my interest from.had show birds for over thirty years and met some great people from different parts of the world through the pigeons.2010 will be my first year racing.fool or what lol
Guest frank dooman Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 started with racers in 1980 but had the big doo,s in 1968 great fun both of them
JAS Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Got the bug in 1977 was coming home when notice A Robertson,s loft had blowen down with the wind so dad and Archie and myself spent most of the night trying to save some of the birds. After that my dad built a loft and we started to race 1978 youngsters.
Guest strapper Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 i started back in 1997..after having canaries/budgies and the rest etc..14yrs...was fairly well known for them. then i was gifted in 97 a few sliver toye pigeons..yb,s....17. i kept them in too long and ended up with 12..i bred off them and the rests history. now been club sec for over 5yrs. had some highs and some lows..now i just lightly race..finding it hard to get that buzz i used to get when i was club average winner 3yrs on the trot ...but still manage some wins. last 4 years havent taken racing seriously. now more into learning about pigeons and their ailments.

Taylorsloft Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 47 years started when I was six got my first pair from a pet shop in Belfast
Ulsterman Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 i started in the early 60's when i was a kid,we have railway arches at the top of our street where rooks as we call them live, i noticed one particular bird one day which looked like a grey bird to me but my mate told me ,no thats called a blue, thats when i first started to notice pgeons. shortly after that i got a tea-chest in the back garden standing on 4 sticks, like stilts.had a few 'rooks' in it, my da told me to get rid of it/them but soon after built me my first pigeon shed,i had homers and tipplers in together breeding together,me not knowing any better. anyway my dads a scotsman and he and his brother kept pigeons during the war. then he met my mum and stayed here in belfast, his brother kept the pigeons well into the 70's untill he died.myself and my 2 brothers are into pigeons .must be in the blood.

hotrod Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 i started up in 1977 to keep me oot the tin pale . and have had them ever since even when i was driving to nest ,although the results were'nt good during this period
frank-123 Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 my father had pigeons i just kind of had them in my blood and was never away from the lofts until i was about 15 then it was not cool to be seen pushing the barrow of birds to the club so i just lost interest but would still have a look now and again my father passed away 10 years ago i just kept them going for my mothers sake when she passed away i moved the lofts the last three years i have put more of an effort into my birds being around my own back garden it make's it a lot easier
Guest mick bowler Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 At 12 i went to pick up a kitten, came home with a basket with a black kitten, 2 fantails and 2 pigeons inside! Been around them most yeras since, apart from a break from 2003-2007 when i moved here.
Babybird Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I have only had pigeons for 4 months. I had a business idea and for my 30th birthday got my shed and converted it,now home 16 beautiful whites. I have 2 very sucessful memorial services under my belt and the next 2 summers booked up with weddings. Probably the strangest thing I have ever done but have met some of the nicest people doing it
