Peckedhen Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I've been advised to treat my birds for canker before I pair up - just as a matter of routine, they are not ill or anything. Which is the best/easiest product to treat a flock of 24 birds and where do I get it, is it prescription only? Thanks Sue.
jonjon Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 i would wait untill they are sitting canker plus is good get 2 different products as canker can become imune to one product each time u treat use an different product
Roland Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Don't matter ... as long as you change it to another after 2 -3 times being used. There are near 30 - somewhere I read now over 50 strains, and they very quickly get immuned to any remedy... A nastatin base one may take a lot longer...
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Easicanker-pack-of-10-sachets/productinfo/EAS10/ BOGOF (evil) at the moment (£6.48 each if you buy two) this is the same as cankerex-plus and emtryl and also the same as a few others (contains dimetridazole)
Chriss Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I find this a brilliant website for pigeon products and advice. If you go to this page http://pigeons.taylorschoice.co.uk/pages/Pigeon_Health_Problems_and_Solutions.php it has many pigeon health problems with detailed information and it also provides treatments. If you have a look at canker (or trichomoniasis) you will see there are many treatments available. Hope this helps Chris

cemetary Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I normally give the birds a Flagyl tablet, but none left for next year, i find them to be very good.

wee red hens Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 we are novices do we have to treat for this as or birds look just fine :-/
Guest strapper Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 we are novices do we have to treat for this as or birds look just fine :-/ canker is very common and each of us have a slight bit of it now and again. if youve never treated then it wouldnt hurt to treat this once. if your not sure about anything just ask on here...theres always loads of advice. one thing about emtryl powder, make sure you dont over dose in the summer when its hot..birds will drink more excessive and will take in more of the emtryl than normal. thus resulting in emtryl poisioning which can make the birds look drunk.
Guest IB Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 we are novices do we have to treat for this as or birds look just fine :-/ Well if there is nothing wrong with your birds you shouldn't have to treat them. I understand that even those who do treat regularly during racing (April - September) don't at this time of year.

Well I believe that once you start treating for it, then you will have to keep treating for it, or so it seems. Have had birds that were, and had never been treated... till I did them lol. Read a great topic on another site where just one youngster in the nest gets it and not the other. Of course simple logical answers for that.
Peckedhen Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks for all the replies. Now I'm spoilt for choice!! ;D ;D
