Guest CS Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 i once read somewhere that u should never put ur garlic into hot or boiling water, it should be put into cold watwr, it takes something out of it, i always put cut up bulbs in cold water, and as i have said before use it in the bath water it keeps ur birds kleen and is good for their whattles and cleaning their nostrols, it certainly is good for keeping them, clean it is used by gardeners to spray on crops to get rid of greenfly etc, Totally agree with you, Fifer.
Jason203 Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 hi i am new to raising pigeons can someone give me the right amount of apple cider to use in every gallon of drinking water. and i heard some people use garlic. how do you make a garlic batch? do you use chopped garlic? thanks Jason
Guest anthony Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 I put one spoonfull of cider vinigar to two litres of water, and crush garlic in the water.
Jason203 Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 okay thanks so if i am making my water in gallon jugs i should add 2 tbl spoons of apple cider to every gallon. and in the other gallon jug how much garlic should i use. also how often should i give all this. one day apple cider. then next day garlic and do that everyday. thanks Jason
Guest Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Hi Jason, best to tailor measurements to your own drinkers and prepare it fresh on the day you are going to use it. Also its not something you need or want to do every day, one day for one, and one day for the other is enough. If your drinkers are 2 litre, on a cider vinegar day its 20ml or two teaspoons of cider vinegar added to the 2ltrs of water. On a garlic day, peel 1/2 a garlic bulb, crush the cloves and add the mash to 2ltr drinking water. Collect your garlic peelings in a jug, add water, and add this to their bath water once per week, will keep them free of lice & mites.

Guest Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Hi, Just found this NEW 1 LITRE OF SUPAR-GAR APPLE CIDER VINEGAR FOR ALL POULTRY. Easy to use just add to your birds drinking water at the rate of 100ml per 4.5 litres of clean water. That's a very high dosage. The previous advice for pigeons anyway has been 5ml CAV per 1 litre of water which from experience my birds will drink no bother. This is 5X stronger, will pigeons drink it?
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Containing 5.5% of unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Looks like its watered down bruno
Back garden fancier Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 My corn shop has cider vinegar for pigeons at £6.99 for a small bottle. Tesco's has it at £1 for a large bottle! Know which I'll buy.
Guest Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Containing 5.5% of unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Looks like its watered down bruno You're probably right, tho looked at label on my own bottle and its far from clear what it means. Other than sugar 0.4g per 100ml there's nothing else in it and only % shown is : Acidity 5% Looked at website but no further explanation of 5% but seems to be all CAV, http://www.aspall.co.uk/special.htm Agree with BGF; my 500ml bottle less than £1 from supermarket & kept in fridge since.

The board is a wonderful place for us to learn from each other. I salute you folk, great knowledge, great enthusiasm. Thanks again, Cocker.

Guest geordiejen Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 i have been using acv in the water daily for almost one year at a rate of 5ml in a 2 litre jug.dont think it matters if you use 15 or 25 ml twice a week its up to the individual.i must say though i keep fancy breeds and it defenetely keeps my birds in better health with very little disease.i havent wormed coccied or cankered my flock since january,i had a very quick moult too.one week of down feathers falling out and most birds looking well going through the moult.most are on there ends now but should be ready for the shows.i also use garlic and orego stim most days and again its in smaller quantities.decided to boil up some nettles today and have give the birds the water from that too.prevention is certainly better than cure.
