owen101 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 could it be something scaring them rat or fox or something
cemetary Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 There was a problem with certain people using the black nest felts, better sticking to the brown ones, JMO, the hens could be getting unsettled, and chased off the nests, check you have no rodents about in your loft. Hope you get the problem fixed out mate, dont wont to loose anymore,
ron123 Posted February 14, 2010 Author Report Posted February 14, 2010 yea it worries me as i have to wait over a month for same to happen again
jimmy white Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 can i ask you ron,,, did most of your yb,s hatch?? i,e any" dead in the shell"?
Guest bigda Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 yea it worries me as i have to wait over a month for same to happen again would get your dropping's tested, and ask for a paratyphoid test, salmonella again cold weather to blame also so its any as the guys say rats getting the hen of the nest rats pissing about yer loft mice would say mice are the worse to have as the take 2 steps and p*ss every where the would go up to squabs and lick there faces of milk > >
OLDYELLOW Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 sounds like the nest felts cant beat good old fashioned gased straw
owen101 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 i use tobacco stalks a man i no he uses lavnder or conifer stalks
Guest gladdo Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 i would not use them felts... hand full of shavings each bowl and as many tabacco stalks cut up as they need.... mikey...
frank-123 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 dont think its nest felts but salmonella just like frankdooman said
ron123 Posted February 14, 2010 Author Report Posted February 14, 2010 good answer i think thats the solution gladdo
Guest frank dooman Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 i know lots say rats but ive seen hens sitting tight even when a cat gets in the loft and ive also lost a full round of 14 day old to the stoat and even some of the hens sat tight then the mother thing takes over and i dont think it would chase 5 hens off the nest dropping test and look at something they have eaten food or something out side the loft
