I know of quite a few cases of paramixo in the area this year. I think that there are some who think that they can get away without the vaccination. Well you can not because it is in a lot of the birds yours will mix with. And the chances of getting away with it these days is very remote.

One case I saw was brought to the loft by bought in birds. These birds came from one of the top lofts in Britain. When I told the guy who owned them what it was, he did not believe me, at first. We managed to save quite a few but, I think, I put six down. The Owner had paid a heck of a lot of money for these birds. What a waste.

In another case the Guy had bought youngsters to compete in the breeder/buyer races. Again paramixo came with them and caused a big problem. And again there was a lot of money thrown down the drain.

The solution is easy. Isolate new birds and automatically vaccinate everything at the loft. It's the only way.

Unless the birds have been done Owen, you can only go on the information you have been told when buying new birds in, i wouldnt like a jag in the neck twice, so its the seller to be honest about it they have been done, what will you doo, take there word for it, or give them another, what way can it be proven they have been done,  :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Hi

I mistakenly jagged 6 y/b twice this year (braincells are receding) within 10 days

There has been no adverse affect that I can see so any y/b I purchase will receive a jag

on entering my loft whether the owner says its jagged or not

Far better to be safe than sorry

Cheers

hi owen m8...i think there are far too many who think that they wont be unlucky enough to get it, then they try to cure it with some medication they have hanging about the loft.

then they send to the race and wonder why they are behind and losing birds.

and the worst case scenario is they have invected someone else who thought they could get away without vaccinating.

as i did this year in youngbirds i will continue to vaccinate early now right through old and young in 2010.

hi ,no its more or less the same thing i think many moons ago some brained up biologist thought lets call it something different :)

It is the same thing. Its sometimes called paratyphus too. Agree its confusing, for me its 'disease and the organism that causes it' for example canker ~ trichomonas. But others add 'is' to the organism and call that the disease, hence salmonellosis. Not to be confused with paramyxo though, the subject of this thread, and one of the reasons I'd caution against using the word 'para' to describe 'the' disease. Could mean either.
