PATTY BHOY Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I was told to use Domestos original. But as long as its hydrochloride bleach I dont think it makes any difference. I havnt tried the citrus fresh yet though
Blue Chequer Pied Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I have heard of people using Milton Steralising fluid but never brave enough to try it myself

Guest ljb107 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 how long before you start to notice a difference in the birds health? Lloyd
Guest IB Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 As I understand it, chlorine bleach just sterilises drinking water, killing most things in the water. But once it is drunk, the body neutralises it.
Guest mr mrs arnold sons Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 it cleans them out in a week and you will see all the mess on the floor lets you see the best in your birds in two weeks no more meds to give them no more money spent
sammy Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 nothing new remember way back in the 60s there was a thing callled vim a powdered disinfectant and after the loft was cleaned out this was brushed into all the nooks and crannies with some getting blown into the drinker and pigeons were left to drinkl it ,sure thats the name of it
Guest cloudview Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 alan atkinson otherwise known as the sandy croftslayer told me this ten yearsago one teaspoon to a gallon of water, also keeps drinkers clean a good fancier been winning for years , so who,s to say otherwise
Guest mr mrs arnold sons Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 thankyou cloudview it just go to show what pigeons racers keep to them selves
Simeon Turner Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 We've used domestus before, and also milton (which is just a watered down version) - very good, cheap as chips and won't arm the birds at all in small doses that is - make sure you don't put anything else in the warer at the same time as the domestos will neutralise it Good post Ian - all the best for the new year and thge best of health to your family
just ask me Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 if im geting it right wil it just clean the water but wht will it do for the birds as i think its being stated here

Novice Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I believe there is an article available by Dr. Marks regarding the use of bleach in drinkers. I have a friend who has a 1 loft race in Canada and he uses it constantly especially when birds are arriving at the loft. Domestos is bleach which is also known by it's chemical name of Sodium Hypochlorite. I think it will be effective by means of the free chlorine sterilising the drinker and contents therefore preventing cross infection. I must admit I have never used it as I worked in a plant which made bleach and I detest the smell.
lithgilad Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 try beef curry it works on me cleans me right oot
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 vim is calcium hypochlorite and domestos is sodium hypochlorite Did titrations on them both when I was studying at college (one or two decades ago(kewl) ) They are both alkalis - and as its best to keep a pigeons gut acidic I wouldn't use it personally in the drinker - but I hate bleach anyway - don't even like it for cleaning - my husband uses it - I don't like the smell - and he's ruined loads of clothes - I personally would like to see it prescription only (evil)(evil)
