Guest Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Didn't notice any difference with the birds on Matrix
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 The birds ate too much of the Matrix - I buy Beyers (I think it is :X) which is only £6.99 for 25 kg it has aniseed in it - and lasts a hell of a long time ;D
mark Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Didn't notice any difference with the birds on Matrix why would grit make a difference.? at least with the matrix you know your bird is taking the grit.
celtic Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Beyers what Redcheqhen ? , what is it you actually ask for from the feedstore
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Beyers what Redcheqhen ? , what is it you actually ask for from the feedstore Beyers GRIT EXTRA (I'm not shouting ;D) http://www.beduco.be/beyers/plus/index.asp?language=en&p=27
Guest shadow Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 never made any difference to my birds saved my money the birds will eat any grit if fed to them with their food
celtic Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Thanks redcheqhen, anybody know of a shop that stocks the beyers in or near Edinburgh ? cheers
matt Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 ive been giving this to the birs since mac1 told me about it cant fault it theres every thing the birds need and im glad to be rid of all my pots it is a bit costly though but if you only have a small team its not so bad not seen much change in the birds though just makes things easyer for me.
frank-123 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Thanks redcheqhen, anybody know of a shop that stocks the beyers in or near Edinburgh ? cheers do they not stock it at craigmillar i guess they could get it if you asked

brian wall 1 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Lads, Matrix was never meant to be a Gem product as such. Mike Lycett and I were having a conversation about Grit/Minerals etc in the loft and it was born so to speak. I produced it for Mike and the lads that came in to my unit. Word got out about it and we were unindated with orders. I am the fist to admit it is expensive for what it is. However the cost is in the manual labour time it takes to put together. It is to messy for a machine. Why not make it yourselves ? Some one mentioned we do not tell you what is in it, nothing could be further from the truth. It tells you on the label what exactly is in the 'tin' The grit is the finest you can buy and that is BEYERS ! No secrets just a superb product that happens to be pricey. Think about the amount of grit & minerals you actually throw away because it is dirty (which it gets within minutes of been down) and some times because the birds eat every drop it does'nt seem so expensive. Best Regards Brian
Guest slugmonkey Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I saw where several of you are adding brewers yeast to your grit just curious as to why I use brewers yeast but I always add it to the food with some oil ? I don't think that we can get this product here but I mix my own grit and I change it seasonally I use granite ( white ), oyster shell, a mixed grit which contains charcoal, and byers pickstone, I also add some mineral powder to this I give LOTS of oyster before and during breeding and lots of granite during fall and early winter I also leave grit down all year so my birds have ready access P.S. we get a product here called Des Moines pigeon grit ( Des Moines is the name of the company ) it is wonderful stuff my birds love it !!!
carlsberg Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 i use matrix because the birds love it also it saves on lots of pots on the floor with different grits and minerals
schyphos Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 good stuff for the breeders a little pricey £5 a tub -- i tend to do what tasker does i buy a bag of grit & add crumble blocks ,picking stones , brewers yeast , red & black minerals , then i give it to the breeders in small amounts fresh every other day i also feed them homaform & mix it with vit energy Absolutely spot on. Buy all these products, mix it yourself.Goes a long way and the birds love it.
Guest shadow Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I've just started using it and the birds love it notice it contains aniseed through so that could possibly be something to do it with it. I still provide grit and pickstone and give them a small amount of matrix as a treat it's the aniseed the birds are going for its also put in redband cheaper to use redband if needs must

jacksafc Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Just really repeating whats been said, it is expensive but not much more than buying all the bits and making it yourself, the birds love it and at the risk of sounding bone idle when youre working full time its one job made easier.
mac1 Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 well said mate its the same as everything smoking ,drinking, driving and we still do it ;D

It's just a case of finding what suits you and your birds, what works in one loft doesnt necessarily work in another,Matrix doesnt work for me but other products do so basically if your birds are thriving just keep using whatever you are using I suppose
