showman Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I wonder will the organisers of the 'big' shows ever get together and try to settle on dates to avoid clashing. This weekend, I believe, there are 3 major shows taking place....Edinburgh, Dublin & Bridlington. This must be a bit of a headache for the dedicated show racer people. The only major show that doesn't clash is Blackpool !!

OLDYELLOW Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 No - its 2 weeks tomorrow Brid was on same time as NEHU last year tho
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Brid was on same time as NEHU last year tho Yes - and I think Colin Surtees learnt by his 'mistake'
showman Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Yes - and I think Colin Surtees learnt by his 'mistake' So he decided to clash with the Edinburgh show instead ?
OLDYELLOW Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Yes - and I think Colin Surtees learnt by his 'mistake' i'm sure he has
pjc Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 In all the years i've been showing and associated with show society's they have never agreed dates and don't think they ever will!
showman Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Been out of showing for a couple of years, PJC, does the BSRF still exist ?
pjc Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 yes Paul just about! None of the show society's are even bothered about supporting the BSRF's own show though! Sad realy.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 all shows should get licences from there unions then there'd be no clashing , then unions should agree to hold theres at different times job done , it's a case of the tail wagging the dog alot could be done to improve this sport but it will never happen , as long as R.P.R.A allow everything and have no infrastructure be more of same splinter clubs and feds , just so next doors loft wins lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
BANDIT Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 THE BEST SHOW IN EUROPE IS ON IN KASSEL IN GERMANY THIS WEEKEND ALSO.SUPPORTING MY HOMETOWN SHOW IN DUBLIN THIS YEAR BUT GOING BACK TO KASSEL NEXT YEAR.

A lot of the established shows have regular dates but it doesn't stop others changeing there dates!. The National youngbird show at Nottingham has been on the same weekend for years, the Dome have moved to the same date! The southern region show is always last sat in Nov, Telford have moved to the same date! etc etc
Henrik Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 The Edinburgh Show has always been held the Armistice Weekend
Guest Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 hers some more.. Ballochmyle sat 28th november .Doncaster sat 14th november . Telford sat28th nov. also an add for Premier in this weeks B.H.W. states will be at this weekends shows Bridlington on saturday and Dublin on sunday ?? andy.
showman Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 yes Paul just about! None of the show society's are even bothered about supporting the BSRF's own show though! Sad realy. Is this a sign of the attitude of showmen towards the BSRF ?
pjc Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 The BSRF does very little for the Show Scene. If it were to organise its classic shows again would society's support it, simple answer is no! Northern members want the show further north, southern members want it further south, for a few years we held it at Shipston on Stour, about as near central as you could get and the support was very poor.
showman Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Seems to me the BSRF has been lacking for a few years now. Wonder why another organisation was never introduced to do a bit more for the show racer if things are as bad as I think they are ?
pjc Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 It beets me! With fanciers giving up due to BOP's, cost of training etc I can't understand why more don't start keeping show racers!
showman Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 A total disgrace Sorry, Davy, what is ?
steve d Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 It beets me! With fanciers giving up due to BOP's, cost of training etc I can't understand why more don't start keeping show racers! I agree 100% mate, as you are probably aware I race in partnership with Scotch Bob, he keeps a good team of show racers which he feeds and manages himself I pop over every other day and offer my little bit of input for what its worth, he has forgotten more than I know about show racers :) It is certainly a lot less work than running up and down motorways training, but one thing I have noticed is that the competitors get on with each other a little bit better than racing men. :)

I am really looking forward to my venture on the show scene next year having purchased some show racers recently.
