The people who made the rule that young birds cannot fly with old birds are being deceived because that rule is getting broke when a young bird is entered in an old bird race. If they were race as old birds then how can they then become young birds? cutting the 2008 ring off to leave the 2009 ring on only proves that the bird was a young bird all along and the 2008 ring was put on to deceive.

So do we all agree that hiding the year of birth ring so it can be raced as an old bird is to deceive and therefor breaks RPRA rule 70 (a) dishonourable conduct. You cannot tamper with a bird after it has been raced marked but you can do so before race marking to satisfy yourself that it has entitlement to be race marked.

Rule 70 does not say Ungentlemanly Misconduct it says Dishonourable conduct the word Dishonourable covers deceived and deceive and that is what you are doing by hiding the fact the bird it is a young bird in order to race it as an old bird. So you are breaking rule 70 if you deceive someone into thinking a young bird is an old bird.

Rule 70. (a) If any member of the Association shall be guilty of any dishonourable conduct. The word Dishonourable among other things means deceptive or fraudulent; disposed to cheat or defraud or deceive. Covering up the true year of a young bird so it can be raced as an old bird is Deceptive and is covered by this rule.

If a young bird has two rings on its leg it is still a young bird fact. If it is breaking the rules to race young birds with old birds then you are breaking those's rules fact. Just because you have the true year of its birth covered up does not get away from the fact it is still a young bird. If you know it is a young bird and you know your breaking the rules by racing it as an old bird that is not bending the rules that is breaking them. If you know it is a young bird and you cover up the fact it is a young bird by hiding its ring then you are cheating plain and simple. It does not need to be put into the rules that hiding the fact that you are breaking a rule makes it ok.

I know you cannot put a new ring on an old bird and that is why I ask (what if you could) would that also be ok with you.

If you put a 2008 ring onto a 2009 young bird in order to deceived people into believing it is an old bird then that young bird is deemed an old bird by deception and in my view should not be raced with old birds. Any member who deliberately deceives in order to break the rules directly or indirectly should be kicked out.

That was not the question the question was what if you could put a 2009 ring onto a 2006 bird leg. Is that not the same as putting an 2006 ring unto a 2009 leg as far as rules go. If it is for experience then send them as trainers simple.

Cut off or cover up makes no difference you are still turning what you raced as an old bird into a young bird and once you do that you have broke the old bird rules.

How can a bird identified as an old bird on race sheets and records then go on to be identified as a young bird? If it is breaking the rules to race young birds with old birds then once you cut off the 2008 ring and uncover the 2009 you have broke the old bird racing rules because you raced 2009 bird in old bird races.

Why is it a stupid question to ask?

If you could put a 2009 ring unto a 2006 bird are you saying that would not be breaking the rules?

If a bird has both a 2008 and 2009 ring then it is a 2009 bird, covering up the 2009 ring does not make that bird a 2008 bird. Putting a 2001 number plate on 2008 car does not make that car a 2001 car.

How would a bird with two rings be identified on the race sheet? If it is classed as an old bird then it should not be raced with young birds. To win a race as an old bird and then to go on to win as a young bird is back to front.

A friend of mine had a couple of young die in nest about 8 days old I went round to his house and we talked over all the things it could have been. On leaving his house that night he put on his security light so I could see my way to my car. As soon as he put the light on I could hear his birds starting to call I look at his loft and the light was shining right into it. I went over to the loft just in time to see some birds leave the nest and unto the floor. Could it be that when he had this light on the night before the birds left the nest and when light went off again they could not find their way back onto the nest? I think so. Sometimes when things go wrong with young in the nest it is not always the obvious.

I done same thing as you I put to small blocks of poison out the first night next day it was gone. Then 4 blocks next day gone, then 8 blocks next day gone on the 4th day half gone and the 5th day none gone. I then looked at the intrusions to find out it takes 3 to 7 days to work so it was the same rats storing it for first couple of days before the poison to effect. There is no better way to kill rats than to feed poison on demand.
