    A new start

5 along the back but will hopefully be changing them for a block of 20 box perches in the near future

    A new start

I am thinking 18-20 yb`s maximum , that will allow me once I have my full team of old birds (12 pairs) to single rear or float eggs from my best under some of the unknowns and also bring in a couple of young`uns each year to try out

    A new start

Thanks for all the comments The Y/B`s are always done very well by the fancier I had them off a real good rearer of a pigeon I have a few more to come from him and a few from a couple of other good local fanciers , who have all kindly offered to supply me with birds to start me back up again, the sport will continue as long as it has good genuine fanciers like these gentelmen within it`s ranks looking to help people out and not just in it for the coin

    A new start

I would of preferred box perches but time didn`t allow but will be upgraded to box perches before long
  5. The young bird pen is about finished , which is lucky really as I had to pick up the first 6 young birds today with some more following over the next 2 weekends as they are ready to wean As you can see it is an open fronted design which will hopefully cut down on dust (PFL) and also keep the birds bright and healthy If it doesn`t work I will close up the front using plexiglass/perspex , but see know reason why the birds shouldn`t be happy and healthy with the fresh air all around them, it may not be the most comfortable for me , but it isn`t designed with my comfort in mind but for the birds health and well being , I just need to add some more perches and possibly add some shutter doors to stop any "really" bad weather driving in to the pen you can see part of what will be the old bird pen next to it but it needs some alterations making which is the next job now the young birds have got a pen and some of the birds
  6. I have used older stock birds, to get the lines I want and you then have young virile pigeons off them with which to race and breed your next lot of young birds, my old Shore cock was 9 when I got him his first round for me produced a cock who flew the water well and he in turn produced me a cock in his first nest that scored from 500 only bird on the day in the club, Old stock birds are fine for bringing in lines and families but if you are having to rely on JUST old stock birds then you may find yourself in trouble a few years down the line when they are dead and gone IMO Chaz
  7. Leek poultry and small animal market normally has a few birds in normally tumblers , rollers and fantails , not the ideal place to buy birds but if you just want a few for the garden then you should be alright with them, it`s on every other Saturday morning the next is on the 11th April Leek Auctions Limited Leek Smithfield , Barnfields, Leek, Staffordshire
  8. Thanks for the information, but a bit short of the distance I am looking for
  9. I think the inbreeding has to have been done in the right way inbreeding is easy, good/correct inbreeding a bit harder, you need to be inbreeding to either a top performance pigeon or a proven producer of performance pigeons and then cull very hard until you are left with the best of the bunch then if your intention is to cross start looking for a bird that has been bred along similar lines and pair them together and hopefully produce birds with the hybrid vigour, although a bit dated the "Old Hand" book "The Strain Makers" is a good basic read on breeding a line/family/strain through the correct use of inbreeding
  10. What distance did he win at over the water as I a may be interested Thanks Chaz
  11. Billy and Ian both UK based they might be worth talking to
  12. And people think keeping pigeons is expensive LOL
  13. Here are a few but there are others out here as well I have used Billy Mills and Ian Waterworth personally for transporting dogs and found them very helpful Billy Mills 07976 316 774 Michael Power (home) 00353 5138 7530 (Irish Mobile) 00353 8725 74807 and mobile for UK 0797 381 5522 Ian Waterworth (Irish Mobile) 00353 8725 50861 and Uk Mobile 0783 152 3369 Donal Croke 00353 5139 1247 and Irish mobile 00353 8680 96375 also email info@greyhounds.ie Pat O'hare 00353 584 1388 Aiden Mcallister 00353 8636 98533 or mobile 0775 969 0354
  14. Has anybody ever spoken to one of the numerous Greyhound Transporters about carrying birds to and from Ireland they go over every week on a return trip and pick up drop off most areas, although you would probably have to meet them at a Motorway services or Greyhound track Just a thought ??)
  15. I am just setting up again and a friend of mine who is a very good flyer is gifting me a load of young birds off anything I want in his loft, some of his pigeons have cost him thousands, you can`t get a more genuine fancier than him, all he wants is to see the sport flourish money doesn`t come in to it , he gives many pigeons to breeder/buyers to help with club and fed funds as well as any other good causes, the man is a gent and a true fancier, I only said to him that I was thinking of starting up again and asked his advice on a particular family I was interested in buying in to , and he said don`t worry I will sort you out, as I haven`t got room to keep a stock pen , he has also told me that there will be as many young birds as I need each year to top up my young from my racers he isn`t on the internet but he knows i appreciate it and will always return the favour in any way I can
  16. If you click on the name of the person that uploaded the video , it will give you the option of sending them a message, hope that helps Chaz
  17. Unfortunately NO my lofts were on the farm where I worked and when I was made redundant I had to get rid and nobody local was interested in them as they all fly the newer Belgian and Dutch super families (although my Shores did a good job of beating them lol) Just wish I could find some more now I am re-starting
  18. Some pics of my old family The foundation cock a direct Joe Shore His son flown 500 miles 3 times and father to my cock that was only bird on the day in the club at 500 miles 6th fed 7 day birds some of the stock down from these 2 cocks An inbred young cock that would of been the next step in the family Of I hadn`t been forced to give up Inbred daughter/granddaughter of the old cock and a hen from her
  19. Does anybody still keep this family of pigeons , it is what my old family were based on and I heavily inbred to a pure bred Joe Shore cock GB93 T 68408 Just wondered if there were any still any around as would love to start with these again before looking for a new strain to start back up with
  20. Thanks any ideas and experiences welcomed as I am still in the design stages and would prefer to get it right first time , Once the young bird racing has finished I will probably split the pairs and put the hens in the aviary/loft for a month or so, something that stood out a lot on my visits to Belgium were the amount of fanciers that put their hens in an aviary for a while after racing was over
  21. Hi all Been a member for a long while but have been without pigeons for almost as long I am aiming to make a new start this year just sorting out the pen ready for some late breds I used to race in the Tamworth fed mainly as well as the MCCFC and a few other clubs as and when the races were what I was looking for Love the distance the very last race I flew in I had the only bird on the day in the club and 6th fed from 7 day birds from Saintes just short of 500 miles but had to give up as my lofts were on the farm I worked on and I got made redundant so the lofts had to go now I have put up a small pen in my back garden and intend to race a double widowhood type system to maximise the number of racers I can fly from a small loft also had a bit of problem with PFL so trying to keep everything as dust free as possible so I am thinking of racing my young birds to an aviary type structure or at least all mesh fronted pen has anybody on here raced youngbirds to such a pen ??? Thanks for reading my ramble Chaz
