  1. I found that after the first couple of years you will end up with an ideal number for your own lofts , as if you try to cram more y/bs in a section than ideal you generally lose them from around the loft or in a flyaway , so I would try no more than 30 and see how many you have left when you are ready to start training , and you will find over a couple of years the number you have left at the training stage each year is very similar , barring any major catastrophes , hope this helps
  2. I have tried it a long time ago and found it a bit lightweight so it tended to just get blown in to the corners , I always preffered "eazibed" much heavier and stays where you put it a lot better , I will be trying "nedzbed pro" next season it is chopped rape straw I believe but has a eucalyptus dressing so has a pleasant smell
  3. I had only bird on the day in the club (6th fed, 7 on day) from Saintes (just short of 500 miles) with a bird heavily inbred to my original Joe Shore bird , and bred a nice inbred family that were always around when the going was hard , unfortunately I had to give them up just as the results started to come :o :o "Old Joe" the original Joe Shore around 12 years old and still filling when pic was taken and with some of his descendants
  4. I used to race the Joe E Shore birds , very good at the distance and when the going was tough, I have ordered some Kenyons y/b`s for next season so will see how they fare at the distance in a few years time
  5. I found this one haven`t tried it myself yet as haven`t bred anything yet ;D http://www.iprr.co.uk/content/pedinput.php
  6. A great idea a shame the unions would never implement anything and make a decison that might benefit the grassroots sport
  7. I feel that all clubs should be open to anybody in the radius who applies and no voting people in, But I also feel that the number of "local" clubs a person is a member of should be limited ??)
  8. The birds may belong to you but the rings do not unless transferred
  9. I would be interested in a few if I can arrange a courier , it would allow me to pair them to my rung distance birds and then I could race all my rung what will be yearlings as they would have mates at home waiting for them , hence giving me a larger race team, this starting back up is harder than I remember first time round :-/
  10. Would it not be possible to set up a site just for the Charity birds , even if it was free forum based site (each thread being a different sale bird) and then just basic details and a link to each LOT could be put up on the various forums, I would be willing to give a hand if needed
  11. They were my own family based on the a Red Joe E Shore cock from chesire, they were bred for the distance and the year I had to pack up a Grandson was 1st club (only bird on the day) 6 th Fed (only 7 on the day) from Saintes around the 480- mile mark , unfortunately he was killed by a sparrowhawk a fortnight later, the strawberry mealy is an inbred son of the saintes cock and would hopefully of carried the line on for me, when I packed up none of the locals wanted these bird so they all had to be culled :'( :'( :'( Old Joe the foundation cock The Saintes cocks sire he flew saintes 3 times himself and an inbred son of the saintes cock
  12. Some of my old family before I had to give up (wish I could get some again now I am re-starting :'( )
  13. sounds like it could be coccidiosis, when you handle her her keel bone will probably feel very prominent, isolate and treat with one of the propritary medicines such as coxoid or gambatabs , if in doubt ask an old hand who lives close to you, if it is something common they should be able to advise you
  14. Well once someone purchases the system then surely they are within their rights to make it available FOC to anybody they wish ??
  15. a nest can contain any combination of sexes either nest pair of cock and hen or 2 cocks or 2 hens

  19. I picked up some latebreds last week that were mainly Biss/Florizoone x`s but the fancier does have "pure" Biss I believe
  20. I remember going to "Herbots Bros" and one of the party buying a YB by "De Fenomenale" and he was given a DNA certificate with the bird and all the principal breeders were kept in individual breeding pens , so in that instance the pedigree would be pretty sound , but once the breeders are in a flock environment then pedigree`s are a bit of a lottery IMO
  21. http://pigeon-pad.piczo.com/pigeonsforsale?cr=2&linkvar=000044 I had some birmingham rollers off this guy for my nephew and all his birds are in very good condition, I would recomend him if he has any tipplers left
  22. The longer you leave them in he more chance that when you first let them out they will be strong enough on the wing to get to far from the loft if they take up, and less chance of them finding their way back again IMO , get them out as early as possible after weaning so they can get a bearing on where they live and that way they can get up slowly on top of the pen and see round before they can go much further, hope this is helpful

  24. I believe the Joe E Shore birds were originally based on the Hanssenes of a Mr Bob Dunne with a cross in the late 70`s early 80`s of the Vanhee/Stichelbaut lines from a Mrs Bowyer of Northwich and they too are like rocking horse ****
  25. I prefer the chequer sat in the bowl
