  1. Sorry this is nonsense and could be used to justify cheating by some unscrupulous types. As in I was only helping this poor stray up the road. As I said earlier good doos win races by flying straight home at least mine do!
  2. Had a few telephone rings removed myself Frank and I would suggest the two things are completely different. If the bird has a telephone ring or is stamped you could phone, if you don't want to phone you should remove race rings and liberate when safe to do so. And of course there has been a lot of controversey about some peoples doos allegedly going into other peoples lofts before being timed in so as you say they SHOULD be removed to ensure fair play. Nuff said I think.
  3. The above makes perfect sense if you are a complete novice and know absolutely nothing about racing doos. However most people recognise a bird that still has more to give but just decides to pop into some other dookit. Birds that go into other peoples lofts and are not run down don't win races. I would guess oldyellow your birds don't win many races, but I'm sure your ets ring collection is first rate.
  4. Can't believe some of the posts on this thread. Strag pigeons i.e those that are not capable of going home to their own lofts under their own steam, have traditionally been identified by doomen by removing their "rubber", so that the owner, presuming it ever managed to find its way home, could make an "informed" decision about their bird. The guy who removed your ETS "RUBBER" from your doo is doing you a favour. Or is the ets ring more valuable than the doo? Think about it!!

Furr goodness sake Ian will you listen? I know what I am talking about! Once the "Bad Bacteria" leave the gut the good bacteria in the gut do nothing helpful as in they are still in the gut!! Simple Eh? Is your birds immnune system killing all local diseases probaly not! Do they sometimes need a helping hand well Leon said they did! All the best to LEONS memory he loved the doos!

I actually discussed pigeon problems with Leon and he advised "me" to remember that "malucidin" (spelling") was a great way of sterilising the blood and helps attacks from cocci and e-coli got a few letters from him I will try and find them! The important thing to remember is we should all be trying to keep "our birds healthy"

You have nailed it spot on Jimmy - "ME" would come home from work in the winter and hand feed the birds at night till they were as compliant as a collie pup and what rewards I reaped hard work but great rewards in the summer! Love your birds and look after them they will reward you!

When my best birds are older and are in need of a bit of help I will readily admit I would do anything to help these birds. The birds I am talking about "timed" "me" in on numerous nights from France and I know they will still breed "me" winnersx sons or daughters (especially daughters protect ("the hen that lays the golden egg")

It was "The Good Doctors" fault then Bruno Lad "Le Fynen" (SPELLING) Crap you have to trust "me" as far as the doos are concerned I know more than you do the sixties were a case of "heads off". Mary Queen of Scots stood a better chance of survival you guys don't know what you are talking about. Treat your birds when they need it and love them I have never owned either a bird useless at racing or wild and good at racing that did'nt want to be loved. Love them and look after them!

There was no good old days chriss in the "bad old days" pigeons would die without hope from cocci then somebody discovered that the sulpha drugs had cocci bang to right and pigeon fanciers were "over the moon" (well its near the start of the football season). You have to be old like "me" but even then some people were against treatment, but now who in their right mind would not protect their young birds against cocci? Luddites - only Luddites would not take care of the birds they love!

To be honest Rose I think in many ways our thoughts on this subject are closer than we might have expected. I will say this I have never known a doo man (or woman sorry) who would not have given his best and by definition his favourite doo anything that would have helped if it struggling against something in its later years in the stock loft. The inportant thing is to use drugs when they are needed not just because someone says you should. Do that and you will help your birds when they need it and at other times the birds will help themselves!

    Losses?

No I have'nt Rose this was exactly the point I was making friendly bacteria being destroyed by antibiotics does not mean the birds immune system has been affected. Once bad bacteria have left the gut there is nothing good gut bacteria can do about it. Thats where the birds IMMUNE SYSTEM comes in although it is sometimes advisable to administer antibiotics to help it if the challenge is too great. And of course anyone would follow up treatment by giving multivits and probiotics to get the bird back on an even keel as soon as possible.

you are priviliged never to have any sick birds. No one is suggesting you should use antibiotics without reason but to refuse to use any treatment on birds and just let them die is a bit perverted. Doomen should hope they don't change the law and MAFF don't bring in compulsary testing and eradication of affected flocks because that will be doo racing finished once and for all, trust "me" a large percentage of lofts have this in them and it breaks out from time to time not alwas identified as para but definite causes illness in our birds. And for the last time using antibiotics does not harm any animals imnune system why can't some of you "experts" get that through your heads.

They already are, you are too late, protect your birds or watch them die!

    this dose`nt help us

The man from the council has glibly stated that pigeons spread disease the implication being that they are a danger to ordinary humans going about their normal business. Bullshit! someone should challenge him to provide scientific evidence that this is the case and guess what he won't be able to do it because their is absolutely no proof in existence that a member of the public walking along the street has ever caught a disease from a pigeon. This guy works for a council, councils are run by politicians and politicians are not even capable of lying straight in their beds! Think about it!

Read the post If you don't treat birds with para you are killing them!! anyone who would allow their birds to die from an illness that is treatable should be banned from keeping pigeons. Indeed the latest animal welfare act makes it an offence not to seek professional help for animals in your care which are ill and guess what you could be banned for life from keeping animals if found guilty. Welcome to the 21st century
  22. He is no doing as well as you. You look about 18 stane in the pictures fae Tammy and chrisses engagement party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
