The red un's a beauty

I know what you mean, i have a few myself, but i have decided last year nothing will go into my stock loft with out it either breeding something, or racing well it's self. last year i put an 09 hen in stock loft who had never been in a basket however, there has been a prize winner in every one of her next for last 3 years paired to same cock (:
-
In my opinion, It should be race basket to prove it's self. If it does then maybe stock, No good putting untried birds into stock loft just to take a box up

Doesn't sound nice A club mate, had loads with webbed feet! they look horrible, But they don't half come well from over channel
-
Someone told it me in December, i went straight to the loft and checked it out, and with the few i checked it on it was working with them and they a few years old, maybe it was just luck and work on them all xD I'll do that, i always get one or two what don't know what sex they are
-
I paired a pair up in 2010, Bred me a winner, Kept the together for 2011 and they bred another winner, And again last year, Ofc they're together again this year

I've got two geese... I don't have much trouble with Birds of prey compared to rest of lads on allotments, Old fellow said it was because of the geese..

I got told about one with the pigeons toes, don't know if any of you guys have heard it before? If the toes are the same size it's a hen i think and if they are different then it's a cock could be other way round maybe xD

I know what you mean this year my race birds have been easy ish to pair up, With 6 out of the 9 2012 hens having a card so i paired them to cocks that had had a card, then just worked round that but with the stock it's hard, Some what have been well raced then retired are easy cos you know what they breed and stuff, But i have 8 unraced 2011 in my stock loft, Pairing them up last year and this year is just a nightmare!
-
Interesting Question! =P I got told of one of top local flyer to always pair best to best, weather it be in the stock loft or race loft worked well for him
-
Wish you the best of luck in future, I hope you and your brother get back on your feet soon! there are some good pigeon men about, what makes the sport enjoyable.

I've been racing from 2010, Young birds only. 2011 i had my 1st win which will always be one of my best, Won the club by a few minutes, been the only member using a STB clock, and it been a late bred at that! My best bird at the min i think it's a dark cock, Had a good few prizes and not a bad pool bird Hope he goes on to win again this year
-
just parted my 1st few young birds today, Come the week end i should hopefully have a hut full!
-
I think it's down to the bird it's self.. 2011 i bred a late bred when training my dad who baskets them and takes them for me put this late bred in the basket when i got home the loft was empty and when he got back i asked him where 'v ring' was it was that late i didnt even have a ring for him and i had to beg one of a clubmate, when my pack of ybs got home no late bred was there.. Hour on or so on this late bred turned up on his own.. That season he got rushed into training and i even put him in race basket for the 1st race and then he went on to fly the full season and still remains in my loft now..
-
Just to point out, I have nothing against late breds, I always keep a few late breds unraced just incase and for the last two year my late breds have scored, 1st club 7th fed not far from 2000 birds just to point out one.. Most of my young birds are around the same age and they are worked hard and they come well, whatever is left in the loft i sort through and keep the ones i need.

Wow, thats pretty cool! XD I have in the nest atm a near white yb from a red pied who's great great grandad was pure white And in another nest, i have a slaty which i have no idea where that comes from

Amazing how pigeons throwback to Grandparents/Great Grandparents. And old opal stock cock has bred me loads of ybs, but never ever has one been opal, they've always been blue. This year, he's bred an opal him self, And his daughter has bred two opals, and then his son has also bred one, Not bad saying that i'd never bred a opal out of his family.

Well i only started a few years ago, 1st season i sent the birds was just in a mess and couldn't compeat with darkness ybs so the year after i tried it and amazing it was, Prizing from the 1st race to the last. As for not been happy with them as yearlings, My darkness young birds have gone on to score as yearlings at club at federation level from 70 - 300 miles. Really it's not no bother, Using shutters/curtains, which will be open while the old birds are out in the morning, shut when they have finished, Fits in with routine perfect
-
They are called racing pigeons, There to race. Sending a birds miles away to fly when they're in moult might be nature but why do such things when there are way round it - Darkness.
